Man, I'm gonna miss going this year! To me, SMALL is THE model airplane event of the year.

Skaliwag, you're gonna have to find someone else to go on those wild goose chases in search of barbeque.

Brian, you're gonna have to bring your own planes this year. I won't be there with your Pongs.

Sigh...21 years now and I still haven't managed to get down to Arkansas in June. That's really pathetic. I can't do it this year either.

BUT...this is big news for us northeasterners...the Canadian event is on again! I attended years ago, had a wonderful time, and thought it had disappeared forever. But it's back, and will be July 2.

I think this deserves a separate thread so I will start one.

With the economy the way it's going, this is a now-or-never proposition for me. I'm still kicking myself for not making it down when Randy was still around, but when times are 'good' in my trade you don't have a lot of freedom to do fun things.

Good point, but it's a three day drive with an extra day added to avoid any "Smokey" trouble. Add a week for the event and another four, five days to get home,,,, I thought I'd fly down on one of them new Jumbos just for the ride at first and then just meet all the good guys in the forum and get a feel for the calibre and variety of aircraft. I like to do this at first, cause it always happens. I go to a meet and find myself "meeting" more and flying less or not at all. You guys sure are friendly.

Same as the Ottawa Small,,, a perfect example. Due to the street and road signs having no logic, whatsoever in their layout,, got to the site late, noon'bouts. I had a dozen highly modified and unique engines with me and that took all afternoon to show the guys. Then I had to scramble to get one flight in. And I wuz nervous and I had trouble getting the hang of flying SMALL *way out there* on a regular layout for big planes. Those have the flight line FAR, FAR, far away compared to my Park Flyer style of take off from three feet away and fly within a 100 ft envelope ahead of you.

I got the glasses for the job but it seems my eyes are running on stale diesel fuel, been in the can too long.
So I'd like to fly down and case the joint first. Meet the guys and bring engines, 'course.

Unless there's some kind of fool stuffing b8mbs@ inta them. [X(]

What a Zeigeist we have these days.

AndyW, from my experience the folks at SMALL don't enforce a large-plane type pattern. No pattern at all is the norm. You can fly as hi/low or far/close as you like. It's normal for Cox free-flight helis, electric foamies, Cox-powered zoomies, and small scales to fly simultaneously. Some flying a pattern over the runway, gliders soaring far above, others buzzing around the little piece of real estate where they're standing. Mass chaos on a small scale. Mostly do what you like within the few rules that exist. Few collisions occur and lots of fun is had all weekend.

As you said though, the visiting can get in the way of flying if you let it. I try to balance the socializing with the flying as much as possible.

Man, I'm gonna miss going this year.

TeeBee I would suggest holding your daughter back one year in school so you can attend SMALL.
AndyW You don't need to bring any planes. There will be plenty to fly.
Brian S You BETTER have your SHABOOM with you. We are also going for a mass launch of Cox Skycopters this year. It will be safer this year if TeeBee really can't make it.

Tee Bee,

I love the picture you've put in my mind. SMALL collisions don't generate a lot of energy so, pick'em up and fly again. I like that.

LittleRock,

How can I resist, thanks.

Better do this, 2012 looms. [X(]

I will bring my Skycopter along, it files well so I should not lose my AMA card...

Shaboom, let's see what I can do about that. That was a ton of fun flying Steve's last year.

So sorry to hear about Ralph. Too many SMALLsters have left us.
There is camping on site with water and limited electricity. No showers though. Something can be arranged. Maybe it will rain.
Press on !!

Don't forget that you can cut the price of your gas bill to SMALL in half if you share the trip to Little Rock with another SMALL fan. Great ot hear that some Detroit folks are making the long drive down!

Richard Ng and I are thinking about carpooling, but we are only about 5.5 hours away.....If the drive were much longer, we would be doing it for sure.

Hope to see lots of 1/2A models there this year...I will still be mostly electrics, but I am still a 1/2A fan as well.
