Default CadCat F5D for OS10FSR

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this still fits into the 1/2A 1/8A area but I've had an os10FSR laying around the house for years that was bought in the early 80's at a flea market. It saw a few laps in a control-liner then spent the next few years pulling up my 2.5M glider.

Anyway, after stipping it down a cleaning out all the oil groves and holes, It fired up and gave a healthy 15,800rpm on an APC 7x4 prop so a set of CadCat plans were ordered from MAN plans service. I've made a few small changes to suit the change from electric to glow (I think they'll suit?).

It's nearly done, I'll post some more pics as I go. Servo's will be hs45hb's all around (2 Ail, 1 Ele, 1 Mixture)

Cheers
Brett

Nice looking ship. You may find the servos may be a little too small.

Looks good, are these the same as the Race-cat?

Mr Cox, I have no idea if it's similiar to the Race-cat??

According to the plan it's "...a built up version of Steve Manganelli's CADCAT, MAN Drawing FSP03921...." "...Designed by Bob Sliff - based on CADCAT..."

31" span
179"^2
26 1/2" length
for Cobolt 05 motor

I changed the airfoil to a MH-something (I can't remember the number off the top of my head), it's a simple slab elevator, slab fin, box fuse so I don't expect it to be a rocketship with the OS .10.

We don't get under 25km/hr winds in Toowomba so I want something I can take out and fly the snot out of when it's windy. It'll be a damn sight cheaper to run than the YS 170CDI in my F3A ship.

I'm debating whether to fit a fuel bladder with a fuel shutoff, or make up a steel tank with a bottom pickup so I can run it out inverted. I have to finish off the back end of the fuse and install most of the gear before I finalise the engine placement, so I have plenty of time to think about that.

Cheers
Brett

The Race-cat was a German design for electric pylon in the eighties, I'm tempted put an SC .12 in one...
I have Race-cat that I got second hand (not the one the picture below), and it looks similar to the CadCat:

Thanks for the pictures.

They look identical and the specs are close as well, I can't comment on the airfoil though.

I really like the white and yellow sunbust style scheme.....

It's true, these airplanes were intended to be flown originally as electric pylon racers. The basic designs came from Germany and everyone else sorta followed suit. It took a looong time for that end of the hobby got away from that planform, even when the planes started to become composite.

With some 15 to 25% nitro fuel and a 6x5 or maybe 5x6 you may find that it is indeed a very volitile rocket ship. Just play around with the props until you get a higher pitch option that lets the engine turn up to it's peak RPM in the air and this little model will rip up the sky in fine style.

Thanks BMatthews, I have a 7x4 7x5 and 7x6 to try depending on how "clean" it flys. The fuse isn't a nice shape at all and there'll be a significant flat wall behind the engine. With modern gear (and glow) the fuse could have been mads a bit smaller in cross section, but it's a start.

If your a bike man, you might be able to figure out what my "other ride" is from my username ....

HINT: It's a Yamaha....

Is it a street legal conversion? My username could be 85RZ.

To me the 7-5 and esp. 7-6 would load a .10 down a lot when you're looking for some scoot. They are more like brisk sport props for a .15. 6x5, 6x5.5 seem more like the right shaft load. Heck give 'em all a try.

Not street legal and not converted, although I would like to paint it up like a normal "proddy 250" for track days just to stick it to the bigger bikes....

Just messing about on a practice day, the other bike is a stock GSXR600.

RZ250 or RZ500??

I also have an '86 TZR250 (2MA, parallel twin) gathering cobwebs, and a 2000 GL1500 which is my street ride. I'll get rid of the 'Wing later this year and restore the TZR...

RZ350R, only 7200km so far, stock except for Fox shock and Toomey exhaust.

My hope is to scare up the cash for a Trinity Racing 480cc conversion kit (the largest one they have that uses an unmodded case).

'98 grey market NSR80 here with 100cc big more kit, reeds, pipe, carb etc.

I had an '87 that was used as Two Brother's Racing's pit bike..... until some thieving lout stole it. Freddy Spencer had used the bike when he was on their team..

I'm sitting 10 miles from the first RG500 imported to Canada and it's available (on the high end price-wise of course). It was pictured on the front of Cycle Canada on the edition with the road test. Bike of my two stroke dreams.. but my oldest started university last Septemebr, my Visa bill is almost as high as the ticket price on the bike, and.. bla bla bla, y'all know the story.

There's was a Honda NSR500v that used to pop up at the odd race meeting a few years back, and it was a real weapon to watch.

Actually there's five immaculate NSR500's sitting in a house 2 hrs drive away at the Gold Coast, but I doub't they'll go under the hammer until the current owner passes away. Not that Mick Doohan is short of a dollar...

The older bikes seem to be doing what the older cars have done, and started to become more collectible to the people that wanted them when they were younger but couldn't afford it, Ford GTHO Phase III perfect example. 20 years ago worth nearly nothing 2nd hand, 10 years ago worth about 30K, now worth about 300K....

As for the CADCAT, I've hit a bit of a stumbling block. My LHS got washed away in the floods we had in Toowoomba and they've set up a temporary shop elsewhere stocked with all the things that sell, NOT with the things they used to have that I need for actually scratch building a plane. ARGHHHH, I can't even get a piece of balsa or music wire. The local Bunnings hardware store may have some music wire?, there may be a model railroad shop in the down I don't know about....
