Default 3-Blade Spinners

Would anyone be able to tell me what my options are on this? The only three blade spinner I can ever remember was on a Cox Stuka I think.

Sad to say that I have never found a suitable three blade
spinner. My solution is to cut a regular spinner off at the
cutouts and hope no one notices. Someone with more
resources may have a better way.

I have 3 yellow, plastic, 3 bladed spinners sitting in front of me now.

Diameter is about 1 1/8 inches. I may be wrong but I think they were designed to clip onto the spinner adapter that also held the soft, red, rubber Cox spinners from the PT19.

Any use to you? - John.

Having a closer look at these spinners they have a ridge on the OUTSIDE of the tube moulded as part of their centre.

Do they clip into the black, 3 bladed props? I no longer have the props but I seem to remember a strange hub molded on the props which was similar to the spinner adapter in my last post. - John.

Probably one of those battles between Cox and Testors where they made everything non-interchangable...lol.

I just have a Cox grey three-blade prop that I might like on one of my planes which would look more to scale with a spinner.

I might just have to go generic with the Dubro aluminum spinner that all fits ahead of the prop but I dont like its weight.

Maybe I'll hunt out one of those cox stucka spinners. I dont even know if I'll stay with the prop or not..

Thanks John [sm=thumbup.gif]

John,
I have a couple 3 blade/spinners and props, but I think they are for pusher applications on Cox planes - not for sure, but can check if you are interested.

If you need a custom spinner and have a small lathe then you might consider making one from scratch. The attached sketch shows one that is dimensioned for an .010 Cox grey prop. It is basically just a fancy prop nut with a balsa shell that has its skirt cutout for the prop blades. Give the balsa a coat of thin epoxy before final sanding and it ends up a lot tougher than you might think. Mine stands up well to the rigors of an electric starter. I haven’t used one on an .049 (I’m a wee engine guy) but I’m reasonably sure it would be plenty strong in that size as well. It isn’t nearly as fragile as it might seem at first glance.

I did a Google image search & I think the 3 spinners I have ARE Cox Stuka spinners.

Let me know if you have no luck finding them, you can have these for the cost of postage from Oz. - John.
