MP Jet 061
Just a heads-up that MP Jet are once again producing their very fine .061 ballrace engines, in both glow and diesel form. With NV engines also now being produced again, it's nice to see some good options available in the 1cc range. (David Owen has the full MP Jet range, plus spares: http://oea.modelenginenews.org/pricelist_2011-06.pdf )

Nice to see that they are remaking the glow too, I have only seen the diesel version for sale locally.
A new production run of their glow heads will certainly be welcome too.

I bought a BB Diesel from the new production run and it had the twin needle carb, but I don't know if the glow version has it too. Just ask the dealer you are buying (or planning to buy) from.

Ihave just come into posession of an MP Jet 061 BB RC glow engine and it does indeed have the same carby as pictured above.
But my question here is, what RC model would suit this small engine?
Bear in mind that I have never flown an RCmodel and Ido like delta's!
Thanks.

You would power any normal 1/2A sized model with it that you would drop a Norvel etc. in. I'd go for something a little larger than the norm, say 40" in a sport model because the glow engine tolerates slightly larger props than most 1cc engines. I've only ever run a 5-3 on my dad's (I have 5 or 6 of the diesels and 2 glows, but I can't stop playing with the oil boilers long enough to play with the glow versions) engine in a House of Balsa P-51. It seems to spin the prop up pretty fast, about like what you would expect a Norvel to do-I wish I could give you hard numbers but sadly I can't.
Remember, these are all steel motors-they will take a LOT of break-in to give their best. They do perform quite well out of the box though..

If you have never flown then I would say get the Herr Star Cruiser. It was the first plane I flew more than once. Don't get excited and fly on a windy day. I'm thinking of doing a Texaco model for one of these. That would be very
stable and a relaxing fly.

RE: MP Jet 061
rcguy59.... I have found that enough of them show up on ebay to meet my needs. Icare RC has done fine by me as well.
For those using the exhaust spacers be aware that the supplied bolts do not work. You need a 3Mx40mm for 1 spacer and
a 3Mx45mm for 2 spacers. I use Axial Racing part numbers AXIA0093 and AXIA0094 for this purpose. They are the standard
.5 pitch as required. The crankshaft is M4x.7P and good luck trying to find a spinner nut as I have only found MP Jet to have these.
If anyone is running the .040 classic the crank is M3x.5P
***Correction...the truturn website has spinners and propnuts that fit...use the cyclon adaptor*************

RE: MP Jet 061
I have had very good service from David Owen for MP Jet parts and engines. I was backing up the truck and ordering parts from MP Jet thru him well before MP Jet decided to make a new run of engines. David can get anything you need, shipping from Austraila was 10 days.
Since these engines use bespoke plugs, you definitely want to lay a small stash of them away, same with con rods on the diesel version as they are most likely to become damaged. This would be an easy engine to convert to a Turbo head, I've been talking to someone about that or may just do it myself and make them available.

RE: MP Jet 061
Just checked Rod size by pulling backplate on my MPJet 061D Rod is massive for the size of the engine should not be an issue
I got 2 more engines form I Care RC on 1/18/2013 along with exhaust spacers part # 13003 yes twin needle carb martin
the PAW 06 rod is a toothpick compared with MP Jet
ROD DAMAGE ?? not likely unless engine is hydro-locked or run over compressed
