With the Wasp Glow button now being $10 and only available from Hobby People

Is there an alternate?

Can you drill and tap it for a turbo plug?

Will a Norvel or other 1/2A head fit?

The following is based on NORVELs, but I think will hold for the WASP as well, since much of it is a clone. I'm at the office at the time and don't have a WASP here.

Here are some options:

1. A COX glowhead is a dropin replacement. However, they're $7.95 from both COX Int'l and EX Models.

2. [link=http://merlinglowplugs.com/Aircraft.html]Merlin Plugs[/link] offers an option. A reasonable good buy is 3 plugs + clamp ring for $14.95. I don't know if these are standard plugs or the typical NORVEL/WASP plug with a flange base.

3. You could use a Galbreath head and NELSON plug. You would have the initial investment in the conversion head, but NELSON plugs are $4.75 from Larry Driskill at [link=http://kittingittogether.com/index.php?p=home]Kitting it Together[/link]. The Galbreath/NELSON combination usually gives an improvement over the stock plugs. I would suggest that you also get a pack head shims. The gasket that ships with the WASP is really pretty poor. NELSON plugs are also available from Merlin. Get the HD NELSON rather than the hot since the hot plug has a larger element hole and will have lower compression. The NELSON plugs, at least those made by Nelson, are long lived.

I'm using the Merlin plugs. Make sure you get the three pack with the clamp ring. They are the same as the Norvel plugs and slightly bigger diameter than AP where they go through the ring. The flange base is the same. To me, the performance seems to be pretty much identical.

Anyone try the flat element plugs (either Nelson's or Merlin)?
