Just in time for Holloween
Finally finished my Buzzard. It has a TT .07 and is covered in silkspan. I tried to use silk but had some problems.

I ended up using silkspan which I am comfortable with, but it sure is fragile. I tried to fly her this morning, but my Kadet bit her on the way to the field. Not sure how it happened, but she had a big hole in the wing when I got to the field. Oh well, I'll fix the wing and try again next weekend.

Wow, that is looking great. You did a really nice job on it.
Yeah I usually use silkspan on the smaller planes and silk on the larger ones. Or nowadays I use the Coverite cloth like heat shrink material instead.

Wagon1,
Are you familiar with the fact that silkspan has a "grain", especially in the light and medium grades? The grain should be applied spanwise for greater strength and wear resistance. I find it hard to read the grain in the heavy grade.
Nice looking Buzzard!

Is this the enlarged Baby Buzzard of 42" span from the Carstens (CF874) plan? I've been quietly 'kitting' the bits for this one off and on over the past few months. Yours looks good-and orange and black is de rigeur for Buzzard Bombshells. Eventually I hope to have a fleet-the 36", 42" 50" and 72" versions..............

Very old-school and cute! [sm=thumbs_up.gif]
I had a TT 07GP in a Thunder Tiger scooter. And while it did fly it, the engine was prone to overheating and didn't like large props (better suited to the plane). Looks like a Zinger prop on there (?), if you are set on wood props the rev-ups are better (available at Brodak), but the engine might prefer APC. Max propsize is about 6x3 in my experience.
I didn't like the screaming glow engine in the nose of the scooter, flying at walking pace, so I've replaced it with a PAW diesel instead. Flies much better now, lower revs and larger prop, but the smell from the exhaust residue is a bit of pain.

I agree that Zingers in small sizes are terribly inefficient. When I switched to an old Rev-Up on my PAW 06 I got a big power boost. Haven't tried Brodak's new ones yet.
There's also an MA 6.5x3.5 that might be good on that TT 07. Prop looks nice, but haven't tried it yet.

Very good looking model. The Buzzard is one of my favorites and you've done a great job. For a model that size, I would have chosen silkspan over silk. Sorry to hear you had problems, but it turned out just fine.
Waiting for the flight report.

Glow and castor sure smells nice, but there is something in the diesel exhaust residue that dominates over the castor smell which is not nice at all. I grew up using both, but lately I'm having trouble with the diesel smell that gets into clothes etc. and never goes away. At the field it is not a problem but at home I find it really annoying...

This is a joke, right? I have to wash up with dish detergent after an outing with my diesels, and I clean up the models pretty well too. I might even throw my clothes in the laundry after flying, so it's a nuisance, but not more than a nuisance.
