Furiously working on a rocket boost R/C glider and may bring my Simple Citabria E+. Of course I'll have the glow and diesel stuff too.

See you boys next week! Looks like the weather will be pretty much a repeat of last year. I like to get out early, take a break in the afternoon, & go back out in the evening. If all goes well; I'll be in before lunch on Wednesday & stake out a couple spots for the rest of TLAR Engineering/Mammoth Spring Mafia

Have been working out of town this week in VA and hanging out with son and grandson in the evenings and today. Heading back to Fort Worth in the AM and am off all week. Will resume model prep for SMALL when I get home.
Leaving either Tuesday noonish or very early Wed morning. Looks like Richard Ng is coming but will not leave until Friday afternoon due to work commitments.

Is this fly-in the same thing as the Small Steps that Randy Randolf used to run in Seegoville Tx? I went to that a couple of times and had a blast. I wish I had found out about this sooner. I would have made plans to come. I have one small plane. A Bridi Aircruiser with an FP 25 on the nose. I have a Little Stik kit stored in the attic that would be perfect. Maybe next year I can come see you guys.
I have been thinking about get a set of Q-Tee plans and making my first electric model. I would have them enlarged to about a 48" wingspan. I know absolutly nothing about electric stuff. My buddies cousin has went all electric so I could get help from him. Anyway y'all have fun.

I've had about 5hrs total sleep the last 2 days and have 500 miles to drive today. We're loaded down with 13 RC planes, a few rockets, and all the stuff needed to survive a few days at the field. Cramming it into a little Hummer H3 was no easy task! Staying at the Days Inn airport. See yall at the field Wednesday evening!

Kicking rocks too....
Had to pass this year, but will be ready next year for sure. Planning on bringing all three of my boys along with airplanes for each.
Went down to Joe Wagner's in Alabama about a month ago. He says hello and wishes he could be there. Possibly might make it next year if his son John is available.
Everyone enjoy and take lots of pics those of us back home.

Day 1 went well. Crowd still a bit thin so far. Weather threatened for a while causing most stuff to be quickly packed away but it never got too bad. Nick and I flew a few 1/2A and electric planes. We'll take more to the field tomorrow. We also launched some rockets along with a handful of others. Fun stuff! I even managed to land my Patriot Missile in the trash can! No pics yet but we'll take plenty and post them after returning home next week. Didn't bring the laptop since we needed all the space for models.

Day 2 went well. More flying, more rocket launches, more funny shenanigans, more tired, more sunburn. I flew lots of Cox engines today. Some of the others had fun with some .049 control liners. Those things can take a beating and these guys know how to dish it out.

It's been a blast so far! I lost a cheap little Harbor Freight electric ff foamie to the thermal gods today. Great flight though; watched it for maybe 10 minutes before it went oos.
My ff rocket glider was lost on the 1st flight but it flew well & glided nice; just went too far & landed in brush that I didn't want to try searching in for a model that I had <$10 in. The control line flying has been too much fun. Little Rock built a corrugated plastic disc with a Cox Sure Start .049 that is nearly indestuctable & just plain fun to fly. At least six of us have been trying to kill it w/o success yet. Hollis Fenn & George Smith built R/C rocket gliders & both have flown successfully.
I don't think I've ever seen as much thermal activity as we had on the field today. We watched a steady succesion of dust devils slowly work down the runway picking up cut grass & weeds off the runway & lifting them high in the sky. Temps moderated & it was quite comfortable all day if a bit breezy but got really nice & calm for the last hour or so before dark.
So far we've seen a whole bunch of 1/2A & up to .26 R/C, tons of electric R/C, rocket R/C, glow U/C,& rubber, glow, CO2, rocket, catapult, & hand tossed F/F, in just about any configuration you could imagine & some you would never imagine.
Looking forward to another great day tomorrow

Day 3 was awesome! Calmer winds overall and more attendees meant a crowded sky over SMALL. Saw some great free flights with thermal action. 1/2As, EDFs, foamies, little copters, multi-engines(and multi-motors) were flown. Some crazy rocket flights that had to be witnessed to appreciate. The grand finale was Keith Sparks' Estes Phoenix modded with 2 stages with 4 C-class engines per stage. It ended up being a team effort with lots of folks chipping in to make sure the flight had a chance of success. The rocket launched and flew well for an excited crowd.
The FARM Club ran the event this year and lots of it's members participated. The usual SMALL characters also helped make sure everyone had fun. A special thanks to Steve Staples, Dale Womack, and Bobby Moran. They all made us feel welcome and our trip more enjoyable.
My son and I were lucky enough to win 4 of the raffle prizes over the weekend. I was also thrilled to receive the Best Glow Powered Aircraft award.
I have never laughed more or had more fun flying models as I did this weekend. The time spent visiting with like minded friends was even better.

Sounds like everyone had a good time as usual. As Troy mentioned, this is a great bunch of people who gather at SMALL each year.
On top of that, great model airplane designers, builders and flyers too.
Looking forward to seeing some pics!

Give me a couple of days to get the pics up. We stopped on the way home for a zipline adventure in Okolona, AR. Fun stuff. We should be home tomorrow afternoon. My son and I have had a great trip so far.
