Default .049 Spad

The 'Folding Flyer' sold on the Norvel sight, I believe, is made from paper-covered posterboard. Construction is easier than the 'flash and ca' method for coroplast. Can be flown .049/.061 or electric. Believe they sell them in a pak of 3. Have one I'm going to use as a pattern for bashing.

Here's my Folding Flyer. Mine has a geared 280 with 8 cells to drive it.

Roger:

I've had mine for a few years, it's possibly discontinued. But I did find the"Norvel" Folding Flyer on an Italian site for 40 Euros.

Found it "Locally" in Texas at EAM - pictures didn't come up for me there, but the description sounds right.

PS: Your comments on the engines? I've heard nothing. wr.

Default Folding Flyer

How does yours fly, Bill? Blue finish looks nice. What'cha runnin' for a receiver?

Got mine off Ebay last year and put it in the 'project pile'. Been busy with other things. Plan to use it as a 'bash pattern'. Can get posterboard cheap enough. Was looking to ply firewall it and put in a Cox Baby Bee or Killer Bee with a tank.

Projects, projects, projects........

My FF, with the geared 280, is marginal on power. Once you get the airspeed up it's able to do anything you want, except maneuvers that require rudder, of course.

Knife edge isn't much without the rudder, but it'll do a little if you enter with a high angle of attack. Inverted flight is possible with a LOT of down elevator.

I have a Cirrus MRX-4 rx, Jeti 050 ESC with BEC, and two Hitec HS-80 servos. Battery is eight NiCad 270 cells.

If I were doing it over I'd probably go with piston power instead of electric.

I have a couple of control line .049. Would it fly a folding flyer alright without throttle or should i put a throttle sleeve on it?

CRrdr97:

Should do nicely with the 0.049. It will have better power than mine, and cost you less to boot.

Using the "Kit" my cost ready to fly was about $160. You wont have to buy a $35 motor or a $20 battery.

One thing noted in the instructions was balance with a piston engine, it will tend to be tail heavy. With the electric motor and the eight cell battery jammed up against it the balance is at the rear limit. But I really think it could be further back.

Just put it together (not enough work to be called building) and havefun. Cheap fun.

Bill.
