I'll cover these ailerons seperate from the rest of the plane and pin the hinges [no glue] so I can try full length ailerons later.
Great idea. Plus program flaperons like a ukie stunter.

Larry....some people have pansies and daisies in their garden, I have Hemlocks, Douglas Firs and Cedars in mine......
The pictures show some clearing a few years ago and after dragging the ground [with logs and chainlink] to upturn rocks. All 100,000 square feet was rock raked by hand by Your's Truly at a pace of about 2000 sq feet per day.
I'm at the base of a mountain range that floated a bunch of rock via glacial flow.

No flight report yet...today was pock marked with showers of freezing rain of all types....even though it's above freezing here.
The model ended up weighing 20.2 ozs with a Berg 6 channel RX ....400 mah nimh, a pair of HS-81s and a pair of HS-65s, 2 oz Hayes tank and a AMA decal to balance the wing end to end.
The engine [ASP .12] turns a 7x3 MAS comfortably 19,800 on low nitro...seems like it has enough thrust to be fun.
This remote needle I made with the tightest press fit that I've attempted [about .002"] and it's the first one I've done that leaks.......[:@]
There are several more stock TD NVAs where that one came from. With a little bit of work, those old worthless Cox NVAs have finally proved thet were worth saving for stuff like this.
The rudder linkage is something I haven't tried in awhile. It's .061" music wire threaded through plastic antenna tubing supports. I didn't have an exact sized drill bit, so I sharpened 1 end of the wire, heated it and poked holes in the control horn and servo arm for an exact fit. I think it'll work OK.
I chickened out and used a trusty 2-56 rod for elevator.
The control horns for the ailerons are 3/16 birch dowel with the business end soaked in some thin CA.

Well, things don't always go as planned.
The first launch started out looking nice, straight up but with no elevator control. The elevator WAS working, the CG was at about 25-30%...but the model had no pitch control.
It crashed nicely, kind of swooped in and got snagged by the alphalfa.
2nd attempt I cranked up the throw on the elevator to almost 30 degrees.
This flight was better, but it lost elevator control about a minute into the flight. It crashed with just minor damage to the fin.
Now I'm doubting the RX but it passed a range check with the engine running.
OK, what about these flaperons..? I turned them off and now the model is 100% controllable. Problem is, it isn't flying real impressively. The rolls are fast but wobbled by the tall fin. The loops are fairly tight, but not nearly tight enough for such a small model.
So I spent more time moving the engine as far back as I could and played with the amount of flaperon throw in increments.
Now the loops are about a 25 foot diameter, but still not as tight as they could be with a lighter plane.
I learned a hard lesson about flaperons on a model like this, with the engine running I could get away with quite a lot of flaperon travel...but as soon as the engine quit it snap rolled hard for the damage you see here.
The rudder isn't very effective at all. The model wont flat spin or do any nice tumbles.
I'm afraid it's too heavy, maybe too thick, let's call it stupidly stupid....!
I'm not sure if it's worth messing around with with this engine..to look for better performance. I'd be better off canning this one and starting over.

To me it always looked like a flying-wing more than a fun fly plane .
In MHO a plane like that with such short tail moment and flaperons ... was not a good idea .

Here's a picture I got from a Fun Fly website.
I ought to take a look around and study as many pictures as I can find.
I think the boom on mine could be lengthened and a few things done to make it look more like the planes in this photo, then put a .15 on it for power.

While the battered plane awaits it's "make over".....here is some more 1/2A 3D video........[link=http://youtu.be/ypOyA2DspXs]ROTATION STATION[/link]
This video is living proof that it doesn't rain every single day around here.

PS It may not be raining, but all those clouds are not exactly what I would call ‘blue skies’ either.

....It almost always looks like it COULD rain here.
We are only granted so many days to play and have fun and I sure don't want to look back on all the one's I spent afraid of getting a little bit cold and wet.
Pure, blue skies are a pretty rare sight here.
