More progress, Wing fittings and ailerons rigged, and tail surfaces being finalized.

ZZ.

Also the last pic is of the finished card model from which my larger flying version was taken. The rc version is simply blown up to the right scale, and proper internals added.

It's really interesting to see the foamie take shape and to see how well detailed the card model is.

Thanks CP! Lol, I shoulda blown off the little 109 before the photo shooting.....that "snow" on the wing is sawdust from my workbench, cause I'm using the little one as a guide for the bigger. I really hope The Surestart can handle the heat of being concealed within this design, thats really going to be the only hurdle, as I know she's airworthy. If it can't, I guess I'll have to donate her to someone who flies......gasp.....It's hard to mouth the word....eeeleeectrics. Blah....ptooooey! But hopefully my cooling efforts will be successful.

I've got no idea how well it will work. All you can do is give it a try after doing what you can to create an entrance and an exit for air to flow.
When you fly Coxes at dusk, you can see a pretty impressive glow. I've flown control line at night with just the glow of the engine to keep track of where the plane was.
So...if your model has heat control issues just consider it a "scale" feature.....didn't a lot of WWII planes suffer from that..?

This is very true. I'll be happy as long as she doesn't lock up!

ZZ -

That plane is really coming along nicely.

Two things I've learned working with foam is: 1) It ain't balsa, so don't try to use it like that, and 2) If I don't like the part, I can drop a dime, chuck it and make another.

Is your paper ME a Fiddler's Green plane?

So true, and the stuff is so easy to work with, I believe if more folks gave it a shot, they would be pleasantly suprised. I mean, the only things I added to this design was a ply engine mount, and the ply and dowel wing mount. The only other things were 4 foam ribs to give the inner wing its shape, and a foam plate to sit the fuel tank on.....all in all a few seconds worth of cutting. Also, you don't havr to build as complex as I do, with a scale hood cowl that is removable etc etc...but its such a flexible material, the fun lies in not only the speed with which you can work with it, but your imagination as to how to construct various projects are your only limits. And on top of this, its tougher and as light if not lighter than stick builds. For instance, there are no formers in the fuselage and no spars in the wings, just the pure monocoque foam...super easy, super light and super strong.

Sure is, just their standard ME109 Emil. I love going by Fiddlers Green now and browsing what they have, it's like shopping for potential new RC birds. And you can build'em in miniature first as well. This is great because you can see how your build is gonna go (a preview in effect), and also have a smaller version to go by.

Some more progress. Tail section, wing fairings, and cockpit canopy all being fitted or finished.
