what plane to build around OS.10 engine?
Hello all. I have an OS 0.10 engine that I would like to build an airplane around. Is there any free plans or suggestions of scratch building that you guys could mention to me? I have several 40 size airplanes but I want a smaller one <37" wings span. I have balsa, then engine, smaller servos etc. but I dont know what to build. . I would really like to build my own but need some ideas.
Thanks
Chad
Thanks

An Ugly Stick is always a good choice. I'm sure I've seen plans for a .10- .15 size somewhere. Box sheet fuselage and 36" span so the wing can be built in one piece.

All good suggestions-but perhaps we should establish what model OS 10 chadxp1 actually has-there are at least 4 models out there-the baffle piston cross flow OS Max 10 from around 1966, [still plentiful on Ebay] and the more recent OS Max 10FSR, Max 10FP and 10LA all of which are schneurle ported and produce about double the power of the early one........which will have some bearing on the suitability of models.
I started R/C in 1974 flying a 'Tyro' with an original Max 10-but in hindsight it was over-propped and under-powered for a model of that size (45" span)-looking back nearly 40 years it amazes me that it flew at all.
A 36" Stik would suit the early model 10 nicely, and if its one of the later schneurle 10s then any of the suggestions so far. [FWIW the original max 10 produced only about 0.14BHP-so was no better than the OS Pet of the time-but it was noteworthy for its nice handling and extremely good throttle behaviour....something of a surprise for the era] The schneurle models produce about double this power.

My early RC years with a Midwest Lil Esquire and an early OS .10. It had a Min-X Galloping Ghost radio. 42" wingspan I believe. Later I put it on a Goldberg Junior Falcon.
Yes, that's a 1953 Chevy in the background. It was a while back....It think this day was in maybe 1964 to 1968 time frame.

That looks rather similar to my 'Tyro'-but I didn't have a flash field box and stand like yours....! Mine flew on Mainstream Gem Digi 1+1 gear-proportional rudder and sequential throttle (which was a pain). I had to come up with a throttle friction override to cope with the servo movement-which was always too great for the throttle arm no matter what servo arm setup you used-no ATV option in those days.
.....a year or so ago I acquired a 'Tyro Too' plan on Ebay (it was originally kitted by Micromold in the UK) which was an updated Tyro for 3-channel-I must build it one of these days...........

There are some other possibilities there too.. the Chips for example.
They don't include plans though.

My engine isO.S. 10LA ABN w/Muffler. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I am leaning towards the ugly stik or similiar. I tried the warbird (HOB p-51 1/12). It was a hand-me-down, it came in heavy and did not fly well at all. It now resides in the local land fill. I like the sounds of a thicker wing, easy to get to engine, fuel tank easy to get to, airplane.
Now if I can hunt down the plans for the ugly stik.
Thanks!

in that case you won't lack for power-and the Ugly Stik suitably sized should go well. You could also consider the House of Balsa CheapAs Laser Stick 10. Tower are currently out of them but someone must have them in stock. Tower list them for $49.99..............personally I rather fancy the .10 Floatplane from the same HOB 'CheapAs' range.......[though by my terminology it's a flying boat, not a floatplane]

Yes. That plane looks nice. I like the entire look but especially the wing as this looks like it would fly stable. U have kit?

I will have kits but not for another couple of weeks. Windows in its infinite wisdom decided I needed critical updates for W7 and crashed my main computer.
When I am able to get the cut files to Charlie there will be kits..... I could get you a drawing if you feel up to an olde fashion "Scratch" job.

If you have any interest in control-line,fly a Brodak kit, with a throttle conversion.
Brodak Mfg.: http://brodak.com/
Sig also supplies kits for RC and C/L, in the smaller sizes.
Sig Mfg.: http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmar...L+Sig+bbac2650
BMJR Models offers FF, C/L, and RC kits in various sizes.
BMJR Models: http://www.bmjrmodels.com/
Most kits are .049 (1/2 A) or .35-.46, but some are offered for a .10 engine.
If you want more options, the only thing I can suggest is to convert an electric park flyer to nitro power.

Hobby King has a 42" span stick kit that could fly with a .10
You could eliminate one rib bay at each tip if it seems a little big.

My favorite kit for an OS .10 was a Warlock
by Airtronics. It was for a TD but I could get
more consistent results with the .10 . Skaliwag
is really close. I like this one.

his was my all time favorite 10 size plane, it had a 37" wingspan, Engine was in the open and easy to work on, you could build it in a weekend, and have it ready to cover quickly.
It was in Model Airplane news
