Next I filled the areas with light weight spackle to fill the low spots. Not shown is I sanded all that smooth, sanding down the high spots and blending best I could. Then I recovered the patched parts. It has some warts and wrinkles that show up on close inspection, but it is back together except for the radio, engine and fuel tank. I'm waiting on the fuel tank that Tower shipped from Nevada. Stuff from them used to always come out of IL and got here quickly, but it will be next week before I get the tank. After that, a few more pictures and some video will be forthcoming. There are still some bees at our field still hanging around where the hives were. They will have to be gone before I run that engine there again. Our electric planes, four strokes and gas engines don't seem to excite them, just the high pitched screamers.

Howdy gents . TIP. I mix a little wood glue into the filler. it keeps it from turning to powder after the engine is ran. Keith

I failed to mention it, but I do rub wood glue onto it after sanding. The covering doesn't seem to stick to the filler very well, and that thin film of glue (allowed to dry before covering) corrects that. Thanks for the tip about mixing it in.

She is all back together now, but with a few warts and wrinkles. We had the coolest August 15 I ever remember here, and with rain all day. The weekend forecast doesn't look good for flying. But, as soon as I re-maiden, I'll post up more video, minus bees I hope!

Great looking rebuild. Heck, your crash repairs look better than most of my first builds.

Thanks Andrew, I'm really looking forward to the next flights. Looks like we have nasty weather for the weekend though.

I know mine doesn't. It is powered with an old and tired OS .10 and likes to fly low and slow in dead calm air.

I've been using LocTite thin CA found in my local Wal-Mart. It has a nice clog resistant nozzle.

I got the chance to fly the Selextra500 again today with a cameraman present. My best cameraman wasn't there again, so I apologize for the video quality. I hope you can get an idea of the performance from this and the video in the next post. Here, I lost some fuel tuning as I had the needle out when cleaning the engine. The video in the next post is a full flight.

The next flight was longer. I did some stall turns, cuban eights, knife edge and more.

Who-ha!!! That flys somewhere between Hyperspeed and Warp 7. I couldn't tell if your camera person couldn't keep up or if it were just disappearing between frames.

I'm sure of it! In the videos posted so far, I'm running an APC 5.7X3. On the next outing I will try a 6X2 to see how she handles at a lower speed.

OK OK, this weekend I will build mine. enough of me being a wanker. last two weekends I went flying to get the bug back. last weekend I flew my Combat Vultures with a buddy (norvels 061) and did some streamer combat.

Now I have the RC and Nitro bug fresh. Time to build this plane, finish my speed plane, and get flyin!

I'm not sure if it's been said or not but what is the difference between the Selextra 500 and the 900? Also are there any pics of the 900 version?

The 900 is a little larger than the 500. It is the original concept but when I realized it was too big for a Sure Start I developed the 500. There are 4 beta kits out there but I have not heard back from any as of yet. I do have pics of mine unfinished with a Magnum 10 resting in the nose.
900 stands for 900 millimeters wing span. 500 is 049.

I was able to get a short video made of one of my flights at a fly-in today. I think this is a better video than the earlier ones due to a different guy on the camera. I made some better landings. The grass was a little longer than I like, so the wheels caught a little on the landing shown. Notice how easily the plane gets airborne before getting to full throttle.
