Friday for a mere 6 bucks I had some vinyl lettering printed up, some large med and small Skorch names all together 10 so not bad price wise.
The 49 was hand drawn and cut out way too much trouble to do the same in letters...

I've always wondered how the decal process works. If the ink is above the clear self adhesive film it seems like it would wipe off if you got fuel on it..?
OTOH, the mass produced "water slide" decals look like they somehow flip the image to print it on the backside of the clear film.

The vinyl is solid black works great sticks very well. I avoid using it in direct exhaust flow and use windex after flying for cleanup of any oil spray.
The first time I used vinyl was back in 1990 then having access to a machine for custom graphics was rare the Military had one on base in my engineering branch and I had my mitts all over it anytime I wanted to fancy up a plane.
Today you can buy them for a few hundred dollars for home use. Im tempted to get one. Near my office is Lone Star Graphics its just too easy to have them do the work and me pay and pick up. All the vinyl is removed less the letters and numbers light stick box tape type material covers over the vinyl you simply pull up the entire word or number off the waxed type backpaper and apply and remove the not as sticky transparent box tape for a perfect placement every time.
Here is a pic all the vinyl less letters and numbers has been removed by Lone Star Graphics.

I had a sign company cut all the masks for the registration on the Moth. Applies as one piece, backing lifts off, there they are and you simply go around and finesse any edges that need attention. I have never painted crisper letters and markings in my life, the stuff is that good. For a pair of 36" by 5 foot wing masks (2 x beach blanket size), two 12" fuselage with the RAF numbers and two 3" high Canadian reg marks, was $175. Oh yeah and the 12" high "14" on each side of the cowl, so four pairs. That might seem high but not for the scope of what they did. It would have taken two days of masking alone to do it and the quality of the finial job would be

Have you seen how fast I build? By the time I got it done petroleum fuels would be a thing of the past.
Besides, I'd have to sell the Moth to make a down-payment on the GT40. I'll make do with what I have. Except I need a small vertical mill. I know two people who scored great deals on one this past year, as in

This evening around 5 pm with the winds down I took the Skorch out to test fly.
I forgot my baseball cap to mount the cam on and only had one prop... far from prepared!
After one torque roll to the left and subsequent broke prop the day was over without enough time to go back for cap and spare props.
I did have a tad right aileron and built in plenty of right thrust it had a bit too much up elevator so couple more clicks and some down
should have it leaving the hand with a better chance to get out and away for a trim flight.
I did record off the tool box with the cam and found the engine on a cox 5 x 4 was getting 17.6k static. The muffler is controlling the goo in the right
direction. I will try a 5 x 3 next with baseball cap where it belongs / camera running. The landing gear did its job and reacted to the impact accordingly bending back.
Shown in the second pic during the walk of shame back to the pit. Lucky for me the Lil Speedy was turning and burning making the trip worthwhile winds down to 5mph
allowed the lil beast to really churn up some nitro slicing thru 76deg air with ease

I'm flabbergasted....it looks like it ought to be turnin' and burnin' with yer eyes closed.
The Grounds Gods were pleased with the ceremonial sacrificial offering, now you ought to be good to go for awhile.

Yea the rains have cleared out sun was up, I monitored the winds and found the sweet spot to be at the end of the day. I think had I tossed the plane with more vigor the wings would have had enough of a chance to start tracking. I relied on the .049 to get the job done but the thrust wasn't there with a 5D. Perhaps I should have started with a APC 5.75 would be best for the trim flight enough thrust to pull right out of the hand / as a low wing plane I'm forced to launch behind the CG which has me a bit too cautious on an aggressive toss. I might of been a hair off when tossing the breeze was light and could have been pushing on the right side lifting the right wing up aiding in the torque effect. It all happend so fast there was little time to counter act the roll / had low rates switched on.

Yea the ground was iffy... the spot I needed was being used by others and didn't want to incroch. I have thought about a slip and slide for a nice lil runway. I may order some larger foam wheels to ROG. I imagine once its dialed in a could fly over asphalt. There are many good flying locations if asphalt is your friend.

Yea its one thing to use a nice lil runway to take off but then you get to fly over grass, there is no where to run over pavement. Nice square 8's
The most daring thing I ever did was fly a 82in span plane in front of the my parents house / taking off in a culdesac with not much room to land crabbing in a cross wind with cars all over risky risky will never do that again. Of course they enjoyed the air show unknown of the extreme odds taken.

Yes, to the casual observer it all looks so easy...well, sometimes.
When me and a friend got good enough at control line to fly all day without crashing [most days], we started looking for another challenge.
We found out about a combat contest and went to watch it. The competitors were NOT making it look so easy...they almost looked like uncoordinated fools out there. Like Keystone Kops.
Both of us figured that we could take this sport up and dominate it in short time.
Needless to say, we were being just a wee bit too optimistic about our glorious destinies as time would tell.

To be honest, stunt only keeps my simian brain stimulated for so long. I'm partial to the more primordial events, like combat and speed, where much noise is made.

The new motors holding a constant speed with big props are nice, but I miss the sound of a Fox 35 doing the 4-2-4 break. When I was 8 I thought my Grandfather was setting his rich by accident. Being the normal 8 year old ADHD, while he was flying Warriers, Noblers, and Cheifs with flaps I was flying a Voodoo on pressure. Could not understand WHY you would want to make it go slower on the downline. In fact I didn't understand SLOW in general.

I fully appreciate stunt, but I too am drawn to the visceral events where the engine and/or the airframe threatens to disintegrate at any moment. I suppose not pulling out of a downline on a wingover has a certain visceral feel, but the aftermath is less of a laughing matter.

Just got some of those 4x2.5 props. Can't use them - molding problem, all four have the blades warped to one side like a funhouse mirror. S--- happens, I'll send them back with a note of the problem. Maybe check yours..
