The car carbs are pretty huge. Some of the slide carbs are even worse. For the header, one could be bent up into a ? shape for less frontal area. Not sure how to make one up from scratch without a TIG welder.

Juan on RC Groups has been doing some work with the Fuji .05 turbo heads and hand made carb bodies
Galbreath needle valve, back plates, spinner etc. His new turbo head gave a great boost in power.
He tried the stock NV on a new carb body but the threads are too coarse for a good setting.

With the OS.10 carb from 1958 this .05 has a more proportional look.

23,690 with the 4.5x4 on the pipe no pressure tap.
30% nitro sportswerks head and plug. 8.8k idle need to adjust the set screw bit more.
Need to source another small thread (2.5mm) pressure tap, should be able to tweak to 24k ish.
I think in the air the engine design should unload very well perhaps 27k

Fuji .05 Static:
10.22 oz thrust
117w /.157hp
90 mph

Find a bulk pack of those pressure taps and I'll split the cost.. I misplaced more than one due to bench mayhem.

I think 3-56 is equivalent or mighty close..

Most of the oriental stuff is metric, #3:56 is kind of small around .095" or so. and 1/16" barb.

Yes Mike that is the size you need to tap into the collar of the Profi pipe.
Would be nice if they made that size with a 90 deg elbow in aluminum.

I do have a 3mm threaded elbow it just eats up too much area after you drill and tap
and its steel just flat out heavy.2.9g I have some 4-40 brass 1g but not an elbow.

In retrospect I have some aluminum 4mm a mere .6g

The padded envelopes are good for small parts. They get sorted by hand automatically. I had my eye on a pop rivet for a pressure fitting. Put the big side on the inside of the pipe, and then...... Well I don't know.

Today I messed with the Vertigo .07 I had not set the low end needle from the stock carb, after some fiddling the lil engine was able to idle down to 6,379 not bad with the 4.75x4. No pressure yet. Today I used 1/2A fuel line and a smaller remote NV and lost about 800 rpm on the top end.. conclusion thirsty engine!

Here is a vid:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSL9Cpreims

Published on Sep 6, 2015

Static Info at 23.901 rpm with 1/2A fuel line
13.05oz of thrust
.202 hp / 150w / 91mph
Idle 6,540 rpm / modified RC Car Carb with low end needle

Best read not shown 24.74k with standard fuel line
14.5oz thrust / 94.6 mph / .225hp / 168w

That's quite the deal...! 92% sellers scare me though.
I used to surf the car forums, but got out of that habit for some reason. There is quite a lot that can be learned from them as well as the boat guys and their equipment.
The coolest offbeat way I've seen to run these tiny engines is in model "tractor puller" type rigs.

Yes I learned some porting tricks over on the car forums and will most likely mod one in the old collection for the fun factor.
I had found this site with some common sense info etc. back when I had bought the first car engine.
http://www.nitrorc.com/articles/2strokepart1a.html
http://www.nitrorc.com/reference/etuning.asp

When using props we get away with running the engines leaner than they should be.
The car guys tend to use synthetic blends for a cleaner runs I wont go under 20% castor just not
worth nuking the engine in the hot TX weather.

I have seen some porting tricks in the car forums that were interesting. Some of the threads are just wrong and seem to be written by children. I am quite wary of a lot of stuff there. The acceleration out of corners makes a lot of kick of the pants feel, seem like power and is very subjective in the midrange, where a car is mostly used. The 7 port motors don't seem to be the answer for the airplanes. I do find the pinching of the sleeve to be interesting when the motor is worn out though. The boat guys may be more related to our needs with pipes etc. The $35 motor is converted to $46 Canadian "may not ship to Canada" Likely $80 in the end, if he would do it. I am more into an actual .049, as that is the size needed for competition in the speed events, not just piddling.

Yea pinching the sleeve works, reading the language in the threads you can quickly tell when a kid is rambling on with hyped up drool. I kept one porting pic thus far from doing a Picco search out of a car forum.

http://www.nitrorcx.com/07veen.html seem to have them. Same company as Hobbypartz. They don't even have one airplane motor in stock any more.

Yes this looks like one of the sites I found the Vertigo being sold: Regular price: $77.80 Sale Price $44.95 Not bad for a true ABC engine with bearings and smaller than a bulky .10 only my vintage 1968 OS .10 gets close in size and of course the Norvel you can buy one new on Ebay for $84.00 last I noticed.

Too bad there is no airplane version. It is not even advertised in the motor section of the website. The clutch thing looks kind of useful, maybe on a glider? Well a car anyway. Some reports of the friction material being too soft. Two years ago I was buying all kinds of motors in the mail, but now our dollar takes the fun out of it. They are all based on the US dollar. Our money has not really changed from the Chinese or Euro money but we have still got a 35% price hike because of the US middle man/base. Hobbypartz had a free shipping thing for the holiday today, that is why I looked here, Last time it was free shipping in the US, and Canada was $10. Not bad. Got a bunch of stuff. Now there is no stock at all in the airplane engines? Are electrics all that is left?

It does bite the choice is to do what I did and convert the engine to RC Plane use.
Bummer about the cost of shipping for Canada! I gutted all the car stuff of course
for me there is no use for any of it really. I never was much for RC cars.

Just tested the APC 5x3 / per thrust calc:
20% castor / 25% nitro

APC 5x3
24,709rpm
17.3oz thrust
.203hp / 151w
70mph

According to the APC power chart
.219hp / 163.4w
24.8oz thrust per their static

MP Jet .061 are still available as far as I know, but I don't think that they made anymore of the F1J specials. The Norvel, or NV, might not be the quality that it used to be, but there is also a fairly large second hand market to get engines from. My problem is that I already have enough engines to last a lifetime...

Are the sportwerks still active or are they just selling old stock?

It is a pity that no-one tries to make a decent airplane engine for regular users. The VA .049 RC for instance is/was a great engine, lightweight with very nice throttling. I have one that makes about 21000krpm on the APC 5x3, with the stock muffler and 10% nitro.

The factory tuned MP Jet .061 would likely beat the Vertigo 0.07, both in terms of power and weight. Here are some data; http://www.gregorie.org/freeflight/f...mpjet_hot.html

Those tests on the MP Jet all look pretty good, but are run on 40 & 50% nitro with an .049 size prop on an .06. Good nonetheless. The diesel pulls a 7-3 quite well. I also have enough motors to last a couple lifetimes, but some I do not run because I am afraid of not getting parts when they blow up. Swap meets are great though, there are millions of motors out there. Profi and Fora are my choices for fun. Just flew my F2D combat again and am really amazed how they go. I wonder how the guys can even fly them together. Once it is overhead, I just kind of hope it will get down where I can see it again. I haven't run the Fora .049 yet, there is no throttle for regular flying, and and no good way to use a muffler for my rc field. I think a Profi might have been a better choice.

Yes, too tiny props to reach 30krpm, but they also talk about 21900rpm on a APC 5.7x3 (with 5% nitro), and that's pretty good.

It would have be nice to see Profi and Fora make something a little more sporty in the 1/2A class. I've been tempted to get the 2.5cc RC Junior, it is a little large (for me) but it certainly looks great ;

Parra makes an .09. I think it may be the same manufacturer, at least some parts. http://www.clubtamaran.com/Parra%201.5%20INFO.htm They have a glow and a stinker in most 1.5 and 2.5cc forms.

The 1.5cc / .09 with the nelson head and RC carb would be worth a go, reported 90g not bad and would adapt to a pipe using the Wasp C / 30deg. up config. orders: [email protected]

Alberto Parra
[email protected] (he takes pay pal just tell him what configuration you are wanting and he will quote you a price and shipping to your home)

C and R versions

Collected stats on the MP Jet .061 various setups / stated BHP

0.21 BHP at 17,000 rpm
0.25 BHP at 27,000 on 25% nitro
0.32 BHP at 28,000 rpm

Is there a price list for the Parra engines?
I can't seem to find it...
