That prop looks real nice..! Like a pair of switchblades.
yes, I think it's really difficult to blow a blade with a .049 engine. I managed to lose a blade with a hand carved maple 4 x 4..but it might have been cracked from rough handling during the engine start.
Blowing a .010 or .020 prop would seem twice as unlikely.

I have made some balsa wood props back in the day for pager motors before there where
any suitable size props for micro indoor flying. Carving props is becoming a lost art. I would
soak them in thin CA.

The back cut leaves the meat of the airfoil for the most part intact. Cutting back creates a
thicker foil for it's overall root yet takes some load off the hub. The removed trailing edge
typically looses volume for more thrust in a sense some traction is lost too.

The upswing all the engine torque gets used for turning higher rpm. The TD almost hit 31k
today and didn't snap the con rod! The two recorded flights held upper 29k with most passes
at 30k + The new props will do 32k / 136 mph down wind should be a nice boost of speed.

The Lil Speedy is limited I need to build a 1/2A NANO strong enough to hold up to 150+
The current balsa box It is stuffed with light weight foam to avoid the vibrations from cracking
up the balsa at the weak spots. Ply will not crack, its tough enough to out last the design limits
while a new improved version hits the air.

New prop on the engine same brand as the 4.1 x 4.1N / 3g weight that hit 30.5k at 118 mph.

Was a 5x5 now a 4 x 5N / 2.6g weight was saved with more back cut and tapper
airfoil work on the trailing edge to help max the other props rpm.
Should hit 30.5k up to 145 mph this will be about it for the Lil Speedy
it's not made tough enough to endure much more speed.

Will have to make a Thunda StiK to go faster.
5.5oz RTF / 55 Sq. In. / 3.5 x 5N / 34k / 165 mph / TD .049
The noisy Lil Speedy is not so park friendly anymore it was
ripping around a bit much for the local park folks.

You can buy here

This works good on the small props and is cheap 6 bucks..

What you can do is ask at the local CO-OP farm supply if they know any property owners who would be open to discuss allowing your activity on their pasture land in exchange for....XXX?
Sometimes they need help loading hay bales, they might want a little cash, who knows until you ask.
The other way to make contact is with farmers who sell manure. They usually manage pasture land, too.
I need to start making some contacts of this sort right now, that's why I had this "plan of attack" already in mind.

There are area's that could be worth checking out. I'm spoiled with the mowed grass at the park lol.
I have 3 organized AMA required flying fields in my area. I could go that route as an option.
Could use a tuned pipe the Skorch II does well to hold the noise down. The open exhaust run
was a bit much at 30.5k it's loud and dominating the park. I like doing my own thing with passes
closer to the cam and enjoyed the growl of the engine.

Here is a flight with a Cox car muffler sound is cut back quite a bit.

On a side note check out the pylon racer its been modified..

NANO II vs NANO

The first version holds pitch very well turns loops great but held turns circling around me the tail
drops a bit up down. Should be able to whip this new version even tighter and with no wag.
Will use a TD .020 on the old NANO it's wing loading is passive with the TD .010.

The resulting design improvements could carry over to all the TD series engines.
Given the RC gear of today wing squares:

.010 / 30 sq.
.020 / 40
.049 / 60
.09 / 80
.15 / 120

It's good that you can keep experimenting with different / smaller airframes until you arrive at the point where there is no gain.

Yes with the new servos, RX and small lipoly cell and micro switch the 2oz version will smoke the original NANO's 130mph. Goal is 42k with a 2.4 x 4N / 160mph. Today I went to the print shop to blow up my rendering to scale, it is crucial my changes are spot on. Using windows paint makes for a great simple tool to mod the original design taken the known good stuff and just expounding on a more clean ship able to make a big jump in performance without suffering a poor glide ratio when the fuel runs out. The 1.7g servos are very small and will allow a 3ch with throttle the trim flight will be less stressful. This design will provide more power to weight, improving consistent speeds in any direction.

Made this tonight a 3.8 x 5N will try it next if 32k / 152 mph should do at least 140.

28.86 Sq. In. vs 43.61 Sq. In. reduced by 14.75
14.43 sq per oz vs 13.63 sq. per oz

It begins the NANO II - TD .010

Started with the wing first using the template from the print shop.
Gross Sq. In. 28.86
Span 15.6in / airfoil is .128in thick .125 at the tips
Bare Weight with servo 12.1g
Wing is 2.4in by 1.3in / 15.6in span
Lost some weight with the wing after cutting out the ailerons
and doing the beveling to allow hinging. 11.8g with servo.

The template makes aileron placement and cutting out very accurate.
At the speeds this one will go all must be as even up as possible.
Underside shown with angle sanded in on the leading edge of the
ailerons. Xacto knife and razor blade puts size into perspective.
This one is taylor made for ye ol TD .010 no chance it can handle
an upgrade with the TD .020 but will be the first TD .010 to hit the
magic 150 mph mark. Engine has done 41,985 rpm with a bulky hub prop
the new prop at 42k gets 159 mph. If 44.8k 170 mph. With a pitch gauge
and a heat gun I can feather in a 2.2x5N / at 42.2k / 200 mph.

Once you reach The Wall, it takes an exponential reduction in drag to create a modest improvement in speed.

The 28 sq" wing figure sounds ridiculous, but in the photo it looks like it's within reason.

It might be possible to do the power / speed / drag formula in reverse to get an idea about how much less drag this plane has.

Crazy stuff Chuck, I year ago I wouldn't think any of this would possible for the TD .010.

Had to post the engine in the first wing pic just to get a grip on the size of the wing.

15.6in span vs 17.8in less 2.2in / thinner airfoil
28.86 Sq. In. vs 43.61 Sq. In. reduced by 14.75 sq.
14.43 sq per oz vs 13.63 sq. per oz

The over all weight should drop 1.2oz
Drag about 18% and should land just as slow or slower.
Investing in the very light weight radio gear is also helping
in over all size reduction do to the component size for each.
I have decided not to use throttle will save room in the fuselage
push rod and throttle ring weight but allow the engine to breath
as the original NANO. I will use the same engine to measure improvements.
Same prop at first the 130.4 mph prop will be ran up rich for the first flight
to give me more time to settle in the trims. Second flight will be that tell on
improvements. I expect around a 16 mph gain right off. The prop dia. will
give a instant boost in thrust lil under 1:1 ratio shy by about 12g. Prop
should gain 3k with the NANO II. 38.2k / 145 mph after dialed in the 3rd
flight can try the 2.2x4N will bust out the next jump in speed / bit more narrow
and could see 42k / 160 mph.

Really flying will be more enjoyable to prop for a consistent speed keeping the
thrust to weight around 2:1

Quick to cut out with scissors but took some time before I arrived at this exact size.
Ply sides are 32nd top bottom 64th. All the gear had to be double checked. Will be
easy peasy to assemble the fuselage now that size / shape is a done deal. Blue
lines top and bottom can represent the sheeting.

Full size pic to scale 5cc tank and 2g servo

2nd pic is with a 3cc tank and sized to match my smallest 1.7g servos
Carbon 3030 prop good for around 2.4oz thrust with the TD .010.

I can't imagine it robbing power. You know with shipping, it is $20 here. I made something like that a long time ago. For an .049 though.

Yea you loose some rpm tad over 1k with a speed prop unloaded in the air. Your mailing system bites Alan I wonder if I shipped something to you what the local price would be at the Post Office. If you are in a pinch for anything let me know. =)

42g with everything less a bit of top sheet up front and a small section behind the wing
will need to make the tail feathers next est. 2g there tops. Used the fuel tank as the
front former again leaving only the firewall up front all ply box very strong for its skinny
size. Est. with horns and a bit of wire and fuel tubing 47 -49g prior to covering. When
the dust clears about 55g / 1.94oz ready to fly Much more leaner in all regards:

21.9g with tank / leaner tail with a bit more moment and approx wing location.
160mah Battery on the right should help offset the wee props torque.

I don't really need anything. I know that shipping from here is overpriced with a courier compared to Canada Post (or USPS) There is a broker fee. I think things sent in a bubble wrap envelope are the only reasonable way of sending stuff. Even our regular postal system has gone crazy lately. I have been flying bigger stuff the last few years because it is windier in the new area that I moved to. A .15 is about the minimum here now. That is my favourite size anyway. My little Ace Simple 400 cut through the wind well with the Norvel.06 though.

The 15 is a great all around size the power is plenty for and allows the use of standard gear. I look forward to doing a project with the collection of engines
in that range.

I have completed the NANO II all up weight 48.2g / 1.7oz

Down to covering and horns / push rods. Build time about
7 hrs worth bit slow as I was careful along the way making
choices. With a set game plan now could cut the time in half.

Lol yep, times are a changing if I can help it.

Picked up this mint should add another 2k rpm Kustom Kraftmanship NV 128 tpi thread and bored out venturi.
big difference over the stock bore. Will be great for bladder or a pressure tap. NANO .09 with a 5x6.25 prop
good for a fast 140 mph beast. Put it on one of my new .09's SPI with throttle sleeve way too loud to bench test.

1 of two colors most visible in the air neon pink, since the fuselage tends to be the most noticed on the back
stretch and side view passes I will use the number 1 dominate color number 2 is neon yellow tends to pop in
a blue or grey or white sky background too. I'm stuck on color scheme but will finish covering this weekend.

This time to add a bit more speed the bottom two firewall corners have been rounded off to match the engine mount.
Should help slide in landings a bit better too.

The push rod won't be emerging out the side like the first NANO instead hides all the way down the fuselage exits out
the back allowing the control horn to be blanketed. So 3 reductions at high speeds makes a big difference. The heaviest
component of the plane at 29g engine and fuselage plus tank, yet built for the worst full throttle smacks should it happen. I would have to have castor or sweat in my eyes not to see this however at 150 mph it will be a rainbow blur.

6 panels covered

4 more panels covered only 2 to go woot!
Weight of the Tail feathers covered 2.1g!

56.1g / 1.97oz covered with all the gear less horns and push rods.
Will go with some black badging #10 and NANO II to help tell when
the bird is inverted. May block the center of the wing with pink to
blend the wing into the fuselage Perhaps some more checkers.

Something to ponder
Lil Speedy -TD .049 VS NANO II -TD .049

Thank you Chuck glad you like!

I added the number 10, flushed in the wing and hand cut the NANO.

The long lanky tail moment was born to track true and bust 150 mph!
I have dry fit the gear and the little wonder balances great with no fuel.
