Mike the .09 in the field was not so bad I was surprised the last time I used one was a RC version the muffler
does a good job. Yesa Alan its a round just for TD engines. I don't own a Conquest. I do have two Olympic .15's
with dual bearings nice engines but no TD .15 or MK II. The Mark II is my most powerful engine on hand.
I noticed this site won't let me post a pic only attachments..least on this thread, wonder whats up???

For a laugh on my last Cox bits order I had a couple of TD cylinders, KB backplate, crank, and whatnot. I built up an engine with the TD cyl, Nelson head, KB backplate.. and almost fell asleep bench running it..

You wouldn't fall asleep running an open exhaust TD .09
I have ran a Medallion 15 way back in the day the rpm's where
not bad keeping the noise down.
photo test..

still sucks what the heck!

106 squares the DART is set up to use 85 to 105g engines. I really only had the goal to do TD's
Next up is the ARF with a car engine.

One of two Conquest .15's I sent to Ron Young/SPR Racing for rework. New bearings, ABC piston/liner, Nelson plug head. The new P/L set uses stock timing, it's not a hop-up per se except for the fact it's not ancient metallurgy.
This is my the first run, but it was bench run by Ron before being sent back. Original Perry carb and expansion muffler as supplied with the RC version, a little restrictive but the engine still makes plenty of power. Fuel is 15% nitro syn/cas sport fuel with castor added to 23% total oil (1/2A brew actually). I needled it just into a clean 2 cycle, there are likely a few rpm left on top but not this run. RPM crept up to 22,900-23,000 while still on the fat side of 2-cycling. Prop is an old Bartels 7x3.5 glass-fibre Cox copy, which was a standard prop in FAI free flight "back then" as in the '70's. Low end needs a tweak but that can wait, and you can see some hesitation on throttle-up. I was only concerned with setting the top end for a 2 minute run this time around. So far - I like it!
So what did you end up flying with it Mike?

I think a Fora or Profi might be a bit quicker and lighter, but not by much. They are still pretty good after all these years. Really the Conquest is the only Cox I really would ever want. The others pale in comparison. I don't use mine because of parts availability mostly. It is not ABC, but is pretty much as good as the one shown. Just that a lean run would hurt it more.

I took the rear pressure back plate off it was pushing too much fuel for throttle use with the sleeve the venturi would
fill up soon as the engine stops. Needs a third line a bleeder line with a very small hole to let the pressure neutralize.
I should have done that from the get go. I used small 1mm ID pressure line and in the vid flew with it now as a vent
line the engine was not getting help from the restrictive flow last night I changed it out to 1.7mm lD and should expect
bit more top end needle. Also noted the OS RP5 med plugs are a bit too hot for the summer. So have some RP7 cold
plugs to try next, which will allow me to use 35% nitro on two shims. The engine will take a wide range of props very well
it's going to be fun to use. Need to do up some narrow cut blades after some this weekend still exploring the power range.

I don't think backplate pressure will work at all with a throttle unless you use a regulator which is a bit hard on a little guy. Any throttle will be more of a shutoff than anything. We used a pressure fitting in the backplate that was soldered up with a waxed piece of .008" flying wire going through. It would pull out easily. When starting, it would not flood as easily. We did not use a throttle. Muffler/pipe pressure is about all that will work with a throttle as far as I know. Suction is fine if the carb is not opened up.

Lol Mike that's a good way to describe that muffler!!
UltraCote, Carbon Kevlar, 1 Meter HANU911 HANGAR 9
kinda cool didnt know they made fake carbon / kevlar covering
I went and ordered some for the next project.

At 1:50 I thought hmm, he's not going very fast, until I realized it was a vulture at the top of the screen.
i wonder how many engine runs you made in total on those e-props you're not supposed to use on glow engines? They don't seem to be flying apart do they..

All together with the builds so far at least 300 flights + in the last few yrs of using them routinely.
Yes had a few of them over the field one swooped down low over me when I first came out to the field
I could hear the air cutting off the wings neat sound big arse bird. Once they saw the pace of the plane
there was no worries of being chased down after a landing. The huge field has something dying on it
all the time, it's a good feeding zone.
I am going to try a uncut 4.75 x 5.5 today to bring up the rpm and take some strain off the engine.
The input on prop calc to get hit 145 mph is 27.8k thats a bit too much to ask for so 135 at 25.9k
is the goal with that prop. I have ten APC 5.5 x 6.5 props in the mail to mod and test.
4.8 x 6.5 will hit 150 at 24.4K
Found a good E prop to mode FMS 11x7 design mimics a MA but FMS likes to use carbon/nylon mix
so should be lower weight yet plenty strong hub size is more like a MA 7x6.

7P at 25k / 166mph if I make it narrow enough.

4.9x6.5NE / 26k /160Mph
best pass so far on a stock 5.25x6.25 / 143mph
Will vid this one in action next weekend.
2172031[/IMG]
Was able to run up the engine in the field Sunday but unable to get a good flight.
I had to take the plane home to fix a servo issue requiring a new servo order
for the throttle I had over extended the throw caused it to bind and burn out
the coreless motor. I forgot my preset was already maxed out without binding
and field adjusted more max throw dumb move on my part not able to see what
was happening inside the fuselage. As a Park flyer I need throttle control with
the .09 and the public its weight makes it dangerous at a 140+ should I loose
the elevator or ailerons I need to be able to chop the throttle fast.
Anyways here are the results with full throttle static:
APC 4.92 x 6.5NE
Static 19.218 rpm / 9.4oz thrust / .192hp / 143.2w / 118mph
I was able to toss and get a bit of a flight before I lost the throttle servo managed
to run up partial for a pass at 23,737 rpm 146 mph I could tell it wasn't wide open
jogged it back to idle / full to check it and locked it down in idle..Should have had
a 6k increase from static per my past tests.. that seems to be the norm thus far.
Apparent potential of 25,218 rpm / 155.2 mph with that prop. Tonight I made a
4.2 x 6.5NE hope to see 21,000 static 6.3oz thrust will be ok for speed passes.

3.75 x 7.5NE may make enough thrust
Will do a suitable prop search to mod would be seeing 170+
crazy passes..
With some T6 aluminum I have made a speedy plane landing gear for the next
build with a TD .15 with that much power might as well enjoy rudder and take offs / landings.
Should still be able to hit 150 mph with the right prop. Nice speed / acro blend 4ch.
All up weight 2.4oz. / 2.25" race wheels with the legs leading edge foiled on the top side.
Alberto was fast on the shipping 5 days from ordering two little Profi 1/2A tuned wonders showed up.
More info on my pipe setup here:

.197hp / 147w / Pipe set up per Bolly Book at {8.8in / 31k}
If at 32.5K unloaded 140 mph potential down wind
Great set up for a .05 converted car engine standard glow plug
30% Nitro / 72F room temp.
Fuji engine open exhaust 27,280 rpm with the goo extension on the manifold.
.168hp / 125w / 8.7oz thrust / 116 mph / anticipate 31k unloaded down wind 132 mph.
On Profi pipe 28,746 + 1,466 rpm boost static, unloaded much more as it hits the MRP
The Vertigo .07 has done well with the larger Skorch II the .05 should be able to do the same with the DART.

Best pass 36,747 rpm 157mph 4x4.5 prop per audio tach brief burst rpm past camera.
With the right size plane the prop speed can be used to it's full advantage.
Per Doppler wave analysis: 238 kmh / 147.89 mph best pass.
Down wind shallow dives gets the rpm / speed up prop is too small into the wind or when
pushed in steady banking turns. Peak speed is brief average speeds much lower.

My computer doesn't seem to read your last video for some reason. That Fuji is really going strong. I don't think a 5-3 is much good for anything speed related though, especially on an .09.

Yea was good to simulate an unloaded state on the pipe.
For the .09 perhaps a 5.5x5 carbon / nylon prop for flying.
The last vid does work checked it on my desk top and tablet.
Perhaps your pc is due for a reboot tends to help.
