Default 'GoFer' 2015DC entry

Hi All,
Did I mention I have a problem keeping things simple?
I am entering every class, with one design.

The name 'GoFer' is short for:
-Go For It (entering a Contest)
-Go For It (not landing on the field)
-Gopher it. (any full throttle impact with the ground)

I'll learn to post pictures. (Imagine a blank sheet of 1/4in graph paper, so far)

I have a Parrot Drone 2.0 which will be flown by someone, against a R/O plane.
And friends with more awesome drones, who can take an overall view, to post on Y-Tube.

This is the song, that will need video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kiy-GLMNxA

Blank sheets of paper are really cool...

Simple is a goal, not a Desination!

Cheers,
Dave'crosscheck'Fallowfield

Tick Tock, Tick Tock, Oct 1st gets closer...

10-15 minutes per day are adding up !

-all the R/C 'guts' I want to haul up, will fit around the CG. With room for lighter options.
-wing is a Dave Thornburg Honker one, built ~the70s. Cannot re-invent the wheel, or waste great balsa !
-fuselage, I'm working on, I like PondSkipper's method of putting thin ply on the outside !
-fuel proofing is a main goal.

Speaking of fuel... I'm close to eating the rest of my pickled herring jar, to make a CP orbital sander engine cleaning device !

I'm having fun,
15 minutes per day.

Cheers,
Dave'crosscheck'Fallowfield

Hi PondSkipper,

1/64th aircaft plywood is awesome stuff.
It doubles in weight, gluing/fuelproofing. I'll try it outside, this time! (why are doublers allways on the inside?)
The fuselage just holds the engine to the wing/guts , and is strong enough, for a tail to follow along.

Nothing to photo yet, have a camera ready, for anything noteworthy.

My Y-Tube friends with DroneCams are ready for going Viral...
They want fireworks, I say no.

I'm thinking more about 'steerable' FF,
And landing back on the field...
With a R/O Cuban8 !

15 minutes per day...
It may be a Contest, but, I get respect from mere mortals, telling them I am in a Worldwide Competition.
I prefer, any excuse to fire up 'small' engines.

I know what I want to do,
And will learn more,

Cheers,
Dave'crosscheck'Fallowfield

I used 1/32 / .08mm and a secondary section on both sides from the firewall back to the trailing edge of the wing for the wing saddle per post #8 on the Skorch thread.

Dave, sooner or later you'll need to upload photos of your contest plane..?
Part of the enjoyment of these contest threads is letting the viewers watch the project take shape.

Hi All,

Did I mention this Design Contest is friggin Cool?
Ten minutes per day, adds up !

Radio gear:
-Fut9Cap Tx, works, just need to figure out how I can 'flip a switch' to make it R/O...(I call it the 'Porckupine, Tx !)
Airborne: (I like this!)
3.5 oz. Total
-300mah Ni-Cad
-2 X HS65MGs, R/E
-Electron 6 Rx
-HS 55 throttle
-spare HS 40, just because I can ! (utilize those silly Tx features !)

Now, the fun part!
Ordering a SS/other cool stuff from Bernie, for a benchmark.
-Collecting different gloves/balloons for bladders.
-ordering in at my LHS, some 40%, I can 'water down' with Castor oil.

I have not put anything on paper/cut balsa yet....

But,
I hope Dave Thornburg, Andy Lennon, Randy Randolf, Ken Willard, Walt Mooney, Sid Axelrod would say:

Nice try !

Cheers,

Hi All,
I am basicly building a T-tail 'Stylized' Honker/Rocket for R/E and R/O.

The '70s' wing I have is set for aileron dihedral. (1.5in ) I'll add the aileron area.
For RO, what sould I reset the dihedral to ?
-Honker is 4in.
-Honker Rocket is 3in.
Which side for R/O stunting?

I could nylon bolt the wing on, but rubber bands are cool too !

I'll bow out now before I 'time out'...

Hi All,

Engine compartment is looking good !
A '4bolt main' double firewall that I can field adjust downthrust, and 'swap' easily for more potent power.

The tank hatch will be molded pop bottle. Fill bladder, nest in, close hatch, 1.5V, then flip prop...
I have a 'weird' idea to : place a crumpled paper towel on top of the bladder, close hatch. The cowl/hatch will catch 90% of exhaust goo... The paper towel will 'get soaked' with castor oil, then tossed, next re-fill....
The CG should not change much !
Did I mention this Challenge is friggin Cool !

Hi All,

I lost my Best Friend Niel, to unforseen circumstances. It hurts.
Family, friends, dealing with it... will never be easy.
But,
He was my Best Friend, and would like me to 'go on' with this project. He thought it was cool.
Funny thing, Life...
How it goes on...

Later, DaveF

Hi All,

Niel, would like me to get this together...
And stay in my semi routine of 10-15 minutes per day, making model airplanes.

Weird, how Life works...

My 85 yr old Dad found a cool camera my sister gave him a few years back.
He is bored, and likes farting with computers.
This will be fun !
Who takes pictures? Who builds !

I'll make you proud Niel...miss you my friend,

Dave, Sorry to hear about the news of your best friend. Life has a way of constantly changing with new trials and new beginnings.

Yes, keep on building and flying in his honor. Your project is timely and has a whole new meaning.

Thanks Brian,

I am still spending 10minutes a day on this project... Mostly trying thinking not to paint myself in a corner!
Speaking of painting and fuelproofing sheet balsa....
Niel taught me 'FrenchPolishing', works of furniture art. An amazing skill...
So,
I'm using the 'brushless' rub it in, 'burnish it', epoxy/polyurathane finnish, I want to try.
I'll use magjic markers, to stain the sanded balsa first !

Cheers.

Hi Dave!

Sorry about your buddy..

1. Bring your dad up to the hangar! The Moth isn't getting any younger either. Actually she's in top form.
2. Bring airplanes with you. I'll bring toys too. Pulsejet ready very soon, on pause all July due to bigger distractions and holidays and stuff.
3. Gotta do this before September 17. I'll be out of commission the rest of the season. I had a cervical spine fusion 5 years ago to stop nerve damage, stable for a good while, but last 12 months or so many new troubles, lots more spine compression (it's called CSM). So getting a C3-4-5-6 fusion operation Sept 17. Yikes. Neck collar for 3 months.. bet the damn thing itches. But the surgeon said flying (real) is no danger, the axial bumps are fine. RC is worse with the neck bending. I've started flying lower now.

Hi MJD,

Let me know when the PulseJet is ready, I'll handlaunch it for you...
That way I can say:
" I handlaunched a PulseJet, It was soooo Fast.... The pilot needed neck surgury after..."
Good Luck with your surgery.
Can't get Dad to go for a 'Full Day' to fly Maralyn. He prefers 'Half Days'. Hopefully I can get him to the Guelph TigerMoth event.
When I am by, I'll drop off some cases for the awesome, 'VeryGreat Maralyn Crew' , and some glowplugs you will like!

Cheers,
(I don't wat to time out here)

Hey Dave - I talked to my buddy Dan (and co-owner) about a joyride day this month or early Sept. He's all in favor. This would be specifically for a handful of people that I want to get up in the Moth. Dan will fly all day, as long as we feed him during and give him cold beer after. And someone else tend the fuel, oil and other chores - that would be me. I specifically told him about your dad, he's all for it. Bring him up for a half day, we can get him up then no sweat. Let's do it.. time's a ticking.

While each rider is up, the wait time is to be filled with model activity. No doubt the Virus will be ready to go or even flown by then. I finished painting last night, I'll pick it up from the paint booth tomorrow. Dan volunteered to build the launch rails. He also volunteered himself as project manager and has given me marching orders that it is test flight in two weeks or less.. he's relentless given that role, omg this next two weeks will be something..!

I didn't really want to do the thumbs-up, but the photographer was gesturing frantically at me to do it.. alright Larry..

Hi Mike,

Dad aint up to a full day 'tour' like that, I'll keep pestering him.

Let me know when...
I can ask/bring our Brewery 'Media Expert' to sponsor, and things could go Viral...
( think 70s RCM cover models, and the planes they held... .X the Internet !)
Win, Win, is Cool.!
Let me know when, I'll bring R/C planes you wil like ...

The Go-Fer project is still, going for it...
Ten minutes per day.
$12 spraycan of Varathane Clear is fuelproof to 15%
Experiments work. Lighter than iron on films, I think...
I'll keep you posted.

Next. I will slow epoxy the new dihedral joint, and firewall layers of 1/16th of aircraft ply.

Did I mention this project is Fun !

Cheers,

Hi Mike,
Sounds great. Dad wants to go ! Yay !
I can do an LCBO delivery in Orangeville 9AM, and bring a selection of our finest for the 'Maralyn Crew'...
If R/C flying is allowed, I can bring:
-my fastest .25 WW2 Combat Spitfire. (want to try higher pitch props on, get some doppler speeds)
-for 'contrast' two .25 WW1 Combats, an Albatross and Fokker D-7 on separate Tx's. You can pick which one you prefer while trimming them out... With long sreamers, as CP says: "Low speed Jousting" is more Fun and practical ! Spectators love it.

Keep me posted here or via PM.
Looking forward to spending time with you and meeting the Maralyn crew...

Oh yeah,
To stay 'on Topic' here...
I'll bring an Artists rendering sketch of the GoFer...
So you can take a photo, and post it here for me !

Take care,
Have fun,

I'm waiting for a couple of losers to get back to me about Saturday. Will update here.
