Looking at the logistics of this 21in span Mini Stick ARF it is very light and very weak for my taste. I may go with a TD .010 engine weight is 15.4g with spinner / prop and exhaust throttle. This weight mimics the electric brushless outrunner in weight. Made a pill tank good for 3/4oz of fuel would fly a good 10mins with a thirsty TD .010. I will have to buy some more 4g servos for this little one. The TD .020 comes in at 26.4g with prop/spinner, aluminum carb body and aluminum back plate with exhaust throttle not bad weight really. The tank should still be good for about 6mins. The GMark .030 comes in at 43.1g with prop/spinner, entirely way too heavy for the lightly crafted ARF.

One approach I'd sure lean towards is to strip the useless plastic film off the offending parts and finish it in colored tissue. I always use nitrate instead of butyrate clear for tissuing, it is so much better for the job that I actually almost like using it. (In small doses tissuing can be fun). Colored tissue sealed on with dope, then finished in the nice light spray clear fuel proof clearcoat of your choice, is a nice light way to go, and it sure toughens up a light balsa fuselage. Point being tissue is good at this. If the wings would benefit from some more strength, stiffness, integrity - same deal. Other than this, with it naked scan for areas in the structure that are below par and deal with them lightly.
That foam glider thing I had the .010 on flew great at somewhere around 5oz as I recall. Think I can go sleep now, waiting to get through the caffeine buzz from a midnight drive with two coffees (only taken after 3pm in times of sincere need like being the bloody DD all the time.) .

Marine Goop glues latex really well and is fuelproof. On the twin balloon pressure tank you could probably push the silicone pressure though a pinhole to stretch through into a tight seal, and fillet with my favorite fuel proof tenaciously sticky and really freaking tough one part spooge..

Yes good points the sticky shrink film binds the grains only so far. Any saturation into the grains will up the strength for churr. As is I will add a extra layer of firewall. The supplied wheels are a joke so went with some nice foam tires need to trim the excess axle and may go with a steerable tail wheel with since the rudder is there. The inside of the fuse will get balsarite to help thwart oil migration / saturation. The firewall will need a epoxy coating. As an elect plane all things are fine as is but to make the lil guy oil proof I will have to make some efforts. When I built the lil speedy it was 5.4oz as a 3ch. with the TD .010 and quite fast with a cut down 4.5x2 as I recall 3x2

I can attest that Tony's film-covered arf held up well to 4 solid days of back-to-back flights of high speed, high-g flogging at SMALL with no ill effects. He flew that poor little plane more that weekend than most people would in a few years.

My boys are bugging me to build a few TD .020 powered Little Sticks for next year. Would be a good summer project for them.... keep'em busy doing good stuff.
We should have a gaggle for next year's SMALL.
Tony / Troy - Do you have plans or dimensions for the planes you brought? Tony - you probably can only get dimensions given it was an ARF. Tossing around the idea of getting these plans into CAD so we can get the parts laser cut.

Brian- Mini Stick fuse length is 17.5 inches, wingspan 23 inches. The only mod was adding 1/32 ply firewall.
Last weekend, enlarged plans at the FedEx Copy Center for new goodies next year! We'll have fun! That's what made the .020 "showdown" so much fun, it was an unplanned idea of ...."Hey, we should try to get all three Sticks in the air for some kind of formation flight, if we can get them all to run at the same time!" It was not a race, we just followed a close pattern and enjoyed flying three different .020 powered Sticks from three different parts of the U.S. While watching the video for the first time, I immediately notice the little grin of satisfaction on Troy's face during his second start, I knew what it meant. Getting these little motors running and dialed in can be tricky....but then again....these three guys are a little older and wiser!
Troy-What was even more amazing about that Lil Red Stick....it survived the trip in a small suitcase with three other planes and six Cox Helicopters!

The model and covering held up very well. Fuel proofing was with thin CA. Believe it or not, I had another "modified" Little Stick at SMALL with a TD .049 that I few several times but the 1/2 oz tank (only spare I had at the time) kept run times to only 30 seconds.....but it went like stink! Installing a larger tank this weekend!
