Hey guys,
SMALL 2016 discussions are posted on the links below and we are once again, looking to exceed last years turn out of 75 planes powered by .010 - .09 glow and diesel engines. Just 5 months to go!
I hope some of you can make it. By far the best event I've ever attended.

Always wanted to and thought this might be the time. Have a dilemma this year concerning time off, 16 hour drive each way and John Brodak's supposed last fly-in ever around the same time. Only been to one of the Brodak fly-ins back in '06 but never been to SMALL...

Yup...I have the same dilemma with time off and distance between events. SMALL, Sig Fly-In, Brodak and EDF Jet Jam are all around a two week period and I live in California. SMALL is a must attend event for me. I'd sure love to attend the last Brodak Fly-In as well. Just five months to figure it all out.

The 2nd annual SMALL West - Cox .049 RC Gathering, took place yesterday at Apollo Field in Van Nuys, CA. The largest RC 1/2A event on the West Coast and possibly in the U.S.....yesterday!
We had a picture perfect flying day and lots of interest by many RC pilots and spectators young and old. Our good friend Corey joined my daughter and I once again for this all day 1/2A RC fun fly. A great warm up for SMALL and we will do it again in two weeks.
Best,
Tony
I love the smell of Cox Engines in the morning!

My daughter and I had another awesome 1/2A Day this past Sunday with our buddy Corey "Scale" Dail and here's a few videos of the fun. Just four and a half months until SMALL.

The Days Inn-Little Rock Airport is offering a special rate of $55 a night for SMALL attendees. Just let them know you're attending the "SMALL Model Airplane Event" during the week of May 30th through June 5th and you'll get the event rate.

I don't know if there will be time for it but are there any recommendations for tasty dining places in and around Little Rock - particularly west side?
Also like to know if hard surfaces or grass for either or both C/L and R/C?

Grass field for both R/C & C/L, though hard plastic sheets are placed in the C/L area. Not sure about dining places but I'm sure you can search via Google.

Hello SMALL'sters! If anyone from the host club or the organizers of the event are monitoring this thread: is flying on the old 1991 legal 72 mhz band allowed at the event? Are there any freq's that are known to have problems? I have a few of the 2.4 ghz rcvrs & 1 tx but it would be nice to fly a few planes on the old freq's.
Thanks!
Milton
Thanks!

Milton,
Great to see your post and know there is a good chance you will be at SMALL this year. The boys and I are planning to be there.
Little Rock (Steve) should know the answer to your question. I am thinking it is perfectly fine to use your old radios as the field still has the pins / radio impound area.
You may want to pose your question in the other site under 1/2A... there is a thread already started on SMALL 2016.

Hiya Brian, your "boys" are probably closer to the "man" designation now!
If nothing happens (knock on wood) Kathy & I will be there Fri & Sat. I'm working on the support stuff now. A new 5AH nicad for the glow heads, new 12V pack for the starter, new 150mAH NiMH's for a couple planes and I'm hoping I can find some fuel that'll work. I'm going to bring the 'Lizzie and the Gyrator with us. Unsure if I can get them (and me!) in flight ready status. May just clean 'em up & for display and reminiscing. I'm still recovering from the stroke but I have flown a little electric backyard flyer and was real happy to find out that the needed hand-eye coordination didn't get short-circuited!

Milton, If you can't find any fuel don't sweat it. I have a quart of 25% and a quart of 35%. A half gallon of fuel will run a lot of 1/2A airplanes for a long time and you're welcome to what you need. Looking forward to seeing you again.

I’ve had a tsunami of events occur that I can’t overcome. Boss at work had a motorcycle wreck & I gotta stay close-by in case they need my help at work. Good paying side-job came up for my amateur machine shop that I can’t afford to pass up. (Wifey & I had to pay the IRS almost 5K this year & am trying hard to pay off that loan as quickly as possible.)
You guys have fun & take lotsa pics! Hopefully, next year will be better. There is a glimmer of hope I may be retired by then. I can dream about it any way. Couldn’t do even that this time last year.

Well rats Milton! We missed you. It was a fun time even with the soggy field. After all these years, the "reunion" aspect is more important than the flying but we did have some calm wind & mild temps between showers.

Kevin - I agree with you... last (2) years I changed from Days Inn to Hampton Inn or Hilton Garden. Now these cost more, but I am able to use my HHonors points earned from my travels at work.
Milton - Kevin is exactly correct... the people at SMALL are where its at. This year was muddy and rainy at times... but we made the best of it. I was tickled this year in particular, since my boys (Nathan, Andrew and Zachary) are getting to know everyone and love talking to learn how the models are built along with the funny stories. This year, as last year, I did not get much of a chance to fly... tried to get my youngest as much flight time as he could get in on Friday and Saturday before heading home on Sunday.
Thanks to Sparky (Keith) for pulling together the get together on Friday evening at Boston's.... a great time. Great to get to know everyone and their backgrounds in model airplane modeling.

Here are some pics that I just downloaded.... first one of my oldest, Nathan, spending some time instructing my youngest, Zachary, who is getting ready to start practicing landings.
The other pic is of Keith's Spooky... Sparky's Spooky. This is his mother ship for the Raven that PaulW flew several times. Keith did an awesome job on the Spooky with the front grill, working beacon underneath, as well as the landing lights in the wings. There are also a bazillion LED's inside the wing and fuselage so he can fly it at night... pretty cool.
Final picture is Tony and his daughter Evelyn. They got many flights on their Cox Skylane which started easily and flew great... dialed in.
