Default can anyone help me out??

Hey guys, wondering if any of you can help me. I am looking for a used td or medallian 09 for a project I am working on. It can be a mess, ie, not a runner but I do need the crank to be there. If the cylinder is missing, thats OK, and I do not need the venturi/nv or backplate either.

Also, would anyone have 4 09 glow heads they would like to sell me??

Thanks for any help,
Andrew Coholic
"AJC"

PS of all the parts I have, no 09 parts right now... ugh! Must have given them away or sold em...

Hey Andrew, you looking for Tee Dee or Medallion glow heads. I think I have one of each....I'll have to look in the ol' cigar box when I get home. I'll be happy to send what I have that you can use.

Dont matter DB, as long as all 4 are the same. I am not looking for a free handout either, I would pay for 4 of the same, preferably new.

I got my hands on some 09 cylinder /piston assemblies and am planning a flat 4...

But I dont have the crank to get the proper throw, and cylinder height. I did find a crankcase.

Okey dokey, I'll look & see exactly what I have tonite and get back to you. I started to say tomorrow since I'm at work but I keep forgetting that the Dickeybird Aviation hangar now has an internet hookup....broadband no less!! So much for designing & building airplanes![]

I don't have an .09 engine or crank but good friend Brian Pate has an engine. If nobody else comes up with a crank, I'm sure he'd let you borrow his long enough to measure it up. A flat 4 project REALLY sounds awesome!

Fast:

Forget the Beezer crank, send one for a Triumph Trident. He'll only have to cobble up a fourth crank throw, and shrink the whole thing.

Haw.

I traded for them so don't worry 'bout payment. I'm sure we can work out a trade for sumpin. Just PM me your addy.

aw, man! I had one a few years ago, gave it away! Interesting aside, I ran a queen bee 074 head in it, fit right in -dickeybird is right- and put fox #8 short plugs in that, and it worked fine! a lot cheaper than the 09 heads. and that 09 engine RAN! only the second engine I ever had that caught on fire while I was trying to start it ( the other was an old rear rotor supertigre), very surprising!

a flat four sounds neat, keep us posted!

OK you guys are swell

I have three TD 09 heads coming from Dickeybird... sent you my address..

Matchless, thanks for the offer, but since three are TD heads, hang onto that medallian for now...

Anyone else have one TD 09 head to sell/trade?

Oh yeah, Dickeybird, if I cant get a used crank to meaure, does your buddy have a means to accurately measure the throw on the crank? Thats really all I need... but having one here would still be easier.

Thanks guys for the help so far!

A.J.

I dug through all my Cox stuff, and I found my Medallion .09 so if you want to use it to get the measurements you need I'll send it out tomorrow.

OK, thanks to Jim T. I have a crankshaft (busted front end) he is giving me...

So all I need is one more TD glowhead..

Thanks Bill for the offer, but now I can keep the busted crank - saves having to send it to me and then me back. Thanks for the offer though!

AJ,

You mentioned measuring the crank throw. Would that be the distance from the center of the crankshaft to the center of the journal bearing? If so, how would you measure that distance with the kind of accuracy that these little engines demand?

Heck, AJ'll just stick it into his homemade 3d electron micro-scanning laser inferometer digitizer, press the start button and voila! Instant measurements. He made one months ago out of a couple clothespins, an old PC power supply and a cast-off electric toothbrush!

Bill:

The easiest way to measure the crank throw is using a dial gauge to measure the piston stroke, then divide by 2 to get the crankpin offset.

If all you have is the crankshaft it's more difficult, requires the use of V-blocks to support the crank, then a set of gauge blocks and a depth gauge. Or another alternate is a dial indicator mounted on a surface plate, still using the V-blocks to support the crank.

Since AJC has pistons and rods he can do it the easiest way.

If unclear I can post some pictures.

Bill.

one other way, put the crank into the lathe chuck and center it (4 jaw, use dial indicator to run it absolutely dead center).

Then use the dial indicator to measure the difference in "height" of the crankpin at the top and bottom. Thats the stroke. Divide by 2 and you have the crankpin offset (center of pin) to the center of the crank.

AJC

Million ways to get the same results....

You are substituting the lathe headstock for my V-blocks.

That's cheating.

OK guys, thanks to Jim T. I have a crank for measuring, and thanks to Dickeybird I have three TD 09 heads.... but I cant seem to locate a 4th head here in Canada

Anyone, can you grab me one from your stash, or LHS and I will gladly pay today's price for it... I need that 4th head for a project. I have US cash, and I can also trade other cox parts.

Thanks in advance,

AJ,

I saw this and thought of you, don't know if it's a TD but worth a shot, and the price is right. Hope this helps,

Derek
