This Is Why We Build. (what a crappy ARF)
I knew it was risky but while parusing around Ebay I found an old COX ARF. It's called a Scorpion. Cool little plane kind of looks like a CAP232 or a Super Chipmunk. So I bid on and won it. I recieved in the Mail today. I opend the box and found that the fuse had a bend in it kind of like a bannana and aleron gaps big enough to drive a truck through. Funny thing about the alerons is that in the instructions theres a huge warning about making the aleron gaps to big. I guess origionaly the alerons came unhinged. Then theres a sheet of supplimental instructions stating "we've hinged the alerons for you". Also not a great job with the covereing. Any way it was MFG in 93 and sat on a shelf for a decade so what do you expext. I giong to try to fix the bird and will post pictures when it's done.

If the Scorpion is what I'm remembering it to be, it was for aTeeDee 0.09 and had a wooden fuselage.
And with the 0.09 it was seriously underpowered.
Bill.

Heres a pic of the box. Iwas going to put an 09. medalion in it. The only other motors I have larger are old enya 15 and 19. but these are really heavy. Wing span is 40" length is 39 ". Is the .09 too small?

That's the one. And the TeeDee 09 RC didn't do a good job in it.
Don't misunderstand, it flew, and didn't fly badly. But vertical wasn't a word it understood.
Go ahead and hang the Medallion, it's easy enough to change it if you want more power.
From what I'm hearing, though, the Norvel 0.074 might be a better choice initially.

Thanks for the responce Bill. Other than the enyas I do have a .061 norvel but this would be going the wrong way. I'm using the lightest radio equipment I have (micro servos and rx) and should save some weight with the medalion (no muffler w/ throttle sleeve) . But I know thats not much. I knew I should of bought the .074 norvel. Oh well I'll try it and keep my eyes open for a good 2nd motor.
Thanks Darren

RE: This Is Why We Build. (what a crappy ARF)
Hey, Guys. I am currently completeing my Scorpion ARF, too. Mine will have a Norvel .074 (this should cause some real confusion for some readers on this forum: A Cox with a Norvel in it!!!). I am using A Hi-Tec 6-chan. and four HS-81's. The wood is mildewed and the covering is delaminating, but it looks pretty good for a $30 purchase. I should be finished this week-end or next. Pics to follow soon. My cousin is completing his with a Magnum .15, but is having to add over three ounces of balast to the tail.
Regards.

I had on of those back in the 90's and used an OSfp 10 with a Davis head on it. used an 7/7 prop if I remember and really had a time landing with the prop turning Not a bad flyer but then I had to do my own ailerons and did some reshifitng of components to make sure that the balance was acceptable. Bigger heavier motors always require a little rear weight to restore 'balance' otherwise you have a dog.
