What are my fuel options?
The LHS has Hobbico "1/2 A Fuel"
Is this ok, oil wise?
If this will work, that's what I'll use because I can get it for $8 a pint or whatever.
if other options are better, please let me know.
Thanks,
Clem

RE: What are my fuel options?
Can you give us some details as to what engine you are trying to get fuel for?
Wildcat makes a great Norvel and 1/2 fuel that is reasonably priced. If your engine is .10 and smaller, I'd recommend any 30% nitro heli fuel. Most 30% heli fuels contain 20-23 percent oil and run great in 1/2 engines. Some 1/2 a purists insist on some castor in the fuel and you could probably add a couple of ounces to each gallon and still have great performance.

RE: What are my fuel options?
Doh!
Sorry...it's for my Tee Dee ohfournine (.049)
I'd rather buy fuel a pint or quart at a time if it will work, because I know I won't be using very much of it (don't have much time to fly...what with my two young daughters).
Thanks all,
Clem

RE: What are my fuel options?
If it is 100% castor oil give it a try. I have some Byron's 1/2A Fuel that is 25% nitro and 16% castor oil and it runs good. I usually add some castor oil to bring it up to 20%. There is a Add Oil Only calculator to tell you how much to add.
I'll post a link. Click on the Custom Fuel Blending Workshop if it does not go to that page first. Then click Add Oil Only at the bottom of the page.

RE: What are my fuel options?
it will work fine. I prefer to buy a gallon at a time, fill a quart bottle, keep the rest of the gallon capped and on the top shelf of my closet. it keeps well in the dark at a constant temp. but if you don't fly all that much small qty. fine. check on availiability of sig 35% in quarts. hobbytown etc. can get it, is cheaper.

RE: What are my fuel options?
I went ahead and bought the Hobbico 1/2 A fuel, but it has only "non petroleum lubricants" which I surmise to mean, "synthetic" as opposed to castor.
From what I read, I think this is bad.
Should I return it and get something with castor then?
Thanks,
Clem

Actually, I think you will find that "castor oil" is the non-petroleum lubricant being derived from the castor bean. The synthetics are usually petroleum based.
Having grown up in the "old school" ways, as children, we were taught that a tablespoon of castor oil was "good fer what ails you". Personally, I never subscribed to that belief.

Ah,
Duh...that makes sense too. I've got an insider in tech support for hobbico...I should have thought to ask him already too. I'm having a bad day, I guess (better after getting good info here).
Thanks,
Clem

RE: What are my fuel options?
Anyone ever figure out whether the Hobbico 1/2A fuel is indeed all castor?
