Default fox .07

Was at my annual club auction tonight and there was nothing special, but I had to have this little Fox .07 it is in pristene condition. I wish it was R/C. I also bought a torpedo.19 R/C with the green head, how about some suggestions for these engines

The Fox is the one with the rear carb? If so then it's woefully weak. Probably puts out as much power as a good Cox 049. I saw one run in my teens and it started easily but ran weak.

Now the Green Head 19 is another matter. Nostalgia free flight is crying for these engines. The green heads were one of the hotter non specialty engines of their day. And they are light too. A modern schneurly 20 will eat it for breakfast but for old timer or nostalgia events they are hottly sought after. Being RC the vintage RC guys that want it for a Mambo. Rebel or other 50's era RC model will probably pay you a fair price for it. They aren't crazy expensive, there were lots made, but if it's pristine you should be able to sell ilt for enough to get a good mid level modern engine of the same size range.

But to put if on something modern for yourself? For sport flying it would be fine but it won't set any records.

The Green Heads are pretty too! I have a NIB .09 that is jewel-like. I have just got to build a nostalgia something or other for it. I have a .15 and a .19 that need rides too.

Bill, The rear venturi Fox motor that you thinking of was the Fox 09 Rocket. Sold for $4.95 and was interchangable with the Cox motors. It wasn't a very fast motor . Your right there but we used a few of them. It had an annoying habit of burping near the end of the tank and on rare occassions it would burp and run backwards with less then spectacular results to your plane.
The Fox 07 was really a nice little motor and it and it's smaller brother the 049 were used in the Comet line of ready to fly planes after they gave up on using O K Cub motors. These can be identified by the comet logo on the left side of the crankcase. I enjoyed these motors in the 60's and the 10 was also a good runner. Incidentally a Cox plug does not fit the Fox 07 plug and it's tough keeping a head on them. The 09/10 plugs are interchangeable and there seem to be plenty of them around.

I used the green head on my Ace Wizard and it was a rocket.
I put it away and have never flown it since.
Great looking motors.

The Fox FAI .049 and the Fox .07 are being produced by H&R Engines, 5024 Old Mayfield Rd., Paducah, KY 42003. They have heads for both. This info is from a couple of years ago.
Good luck.

The Torp 19 was THE 19 size engine to beat in the day... set many CL records and they are not only powerfull but light and easy handling too. How about a CL plane for it?

Back in 1956 (when I was 12) I went through three Sterling P-51 Mustang C/L models with my K&B 19 Torp. Green Head. I don't know how many gallons of fuel went through that engine but I loved it. So much so that I have one on the book case right behind me. There is a Sterling P-51 Mustang kit down in the workshop waiting for me to find time to build it.

THose really were the good old days. Model in one hand, fuel, battery and control lines in the saddle bags, peddling my bike to meet the others at the flying circle. Brings a big grin to my face just thinking about it.

Oh, I bought the P-51, Green Head and a bunch of other stuff from my youth on eBay. Just bought a Babcock MkII Compound Escapement on eBay yesterday for eight bucks.

The Fox .049 FAI means the engine ran without nitro, right? What applications was it used for? Does 0% nitro really work?

I'm not sure that's true. I think the .049 FAI was made before the 0% nitro rule came into effect. The Fox FAI .049 is a little beefier and more powerful than the standard Fox .049. I have run mine on 15% nitro. I'm sure it will handle more but I like 15%.

Andrew, although I have lived in upstate NY for over 35 years, I will always consider myself "from" Lexington, KY.

Hey Steve in 1956 I was six, half your age! I guess that don't hold true anymore. WOW what memories you brought back, 1958 my older brother who mostly flew a sterling P-51 with a fox .35, had bought me a Wen-Mac P-47 and taught me how to fly it, man was I dizzy, but not dizzy enough to stop flying, since that day I've never been out of the hobby.
Thanks for the memory
