coroplast control line anyone?
Has anyone built a coroplast control line plane yet either 1/2A or something for a .35 to .40? If you have let me know how it worked out.

RE: coroplast control line anyone?
propjobbill,
I have 2 different coroplast c/l planes that I have built. One is the Platter from the Aero Maniac's site. It's a super cool flying disk. My little girl would launch it for me and I could hover it 3 feet off the group and then do loops in it's lenght. The other one is a stunt wing from the Balsa Beaver's site up in Canada. It was also a cool plane. Both had Cox reedies on them. Easy...cheap..FUN!!!
LAter,
Tim

RE: coroplast control line anyone?
AJ-
those are really cool.
I have been wanting to try out a 1/2a CL for a while now and have been reading up on it quite a bit. I got a few handles on eBay and a really nice old Carl Goldberg kit but I am afraid to wreck it.
ah, but coroplast, that's the key!!!! i do much better about things that are hard to break, and that would be something fun to do with all those reedies that I have kicking around.
AJ, do you have a drawing or a close up of one of those planes so I might be able to try one out?
thanks
timothy

These planes are all the same, made from one piece of 4mm coro plast and all powered by cox reed valve engines (black widow types - twin bypass, larger stunt tank).
They actually go like snot! A bit fast for teaching the kids, this spring I am going to add a tail to a few to see if they fly a bit more sedate...
But we had a lot of fun. That was last year. One of the kids now has 3 or 4 "real" cl planes including a Nobler, and also flies RC very well. The others are kids I help regul;arly with rubber powered free flight planes.
I am hoping to get more CL action going this summer here in my town.

PS let me get the drawings dug up, I will post them here....

Bill,
The plans are are on the site too in PDF format. Any little reed valve Cox will fly one just fine..if not to fast for some. I used a 6x3 prop on mine sometimes the Cox 5x3 3 blade.
Later,
Tim

Tim,
Thanks for the tip I didnt know the plans were there...
Look under the "beginners'" section, propjobbill.
I am actually an honorary Perfect Circle club member, I sent 4 NIB black widows and 4 used ones to the club a few years ago for their kids program. Its a great, cheap way to get kids into the hobby, isnt it!?

I keep forgetting to make one of these. I made a platter long ago out of coro. Here's the link for the trainer http://www.balsabeavers.ca/images/Trainer2.pdf
I ought to go downstairs right now and carve some coro.

I call this one the "Grin Reaper" because everyone who flies it walks away with a big grin on their face. Frank from "Flying Models" wants me to do an article. He flew it at last years SMALL and loved it. Cox 020 for power.
