I have done some of these and at minimun sheet the fuse and wings. I also enclose the equipment in sealed areas and then squirt expanding foam (cames in a can, available at lowes or home depot etc.) into the rest of the aircraft. Experiment with it first to see how it works, watch it for 24-48 hrs. It will bust the model apart like an over inflated balloon if too much added. Makes it very strong and still fairly light.

I have done three to date. THe best one I did was to put a Cox 0.020 in a DR1. It flew so slow that it looked like it was floating in one spot. It did not last to long, no sheeting of any kind. I did do the larger Mustang with a 0.051. It flew very well. I sheeted the wings and fuse with 1/32 balsa and got over a year on it before it buried it self it the grass.

The expanding foam comes in two types. One is MAXIMUM and it will turn your plane inside out. THe other is low expansion. It stops expanding when it touches something.

Dru.
