Bolt on Power Pods...
Hi all,
Just thought I'd share this idea.
I've been experimenting with different foam wings and needed a simple way to basically just apply power to these wings...
I have two Norvel .061 (non-throttle controlled) that I just bold to different airframes as needed...
Pods are made from 1/8 doorskin and 1/4 hardwood rails...probably use 1/4x20 nylon bolts for attachement...

My next design is a twin powered delta...much like the drawing here.

What do ya think?
Can't wait to hear two little norvels running full throttle at the same time...
Guys at the field think ONE is irritating...hehehe...let's do TWO at once!!
(Yes, I plan on running mufflers)

RE: Bolt on Power Pods...
Dear Crazy,
I think your idea is just what I have been looking for - scaled down a little.
I have been trying to talk myself into building a Plouf (British design for a very small tapered-wing, V-tailed, slope soarer). My quandary is that I may be able to fly at a slope on rare occasions -l so why waste valuable building time? Answer; its a cute little model and my previous, very short, experience with slopers has led me to want more.
So, if I could easily, lightly, quickly, cheaply, adjustably add a removeable engine pod it could become a multi-use model. Woo Hoo!
So, if I adapt your "flat" mount engine pod concept for a TD .010, I could enjoy a couple of advantages;
1, I could easily add an external tank for longer runs.
2, It could be easily added/removed from a Plouf using the existing hatch mount and one screw (which would reduce extra weight too).
3, Thrust adjustments could be made without didling with the actual airframe. CG too.
Finally, if I build one pod I might as well build two. And everyone would agree that twin .010s would be too cool. This could easily be adapted to a basic flat-panel delta design like you proposed.
Great! Now I have three items to add to my Must-build-next list. Thanks a lot (tongue in cheek).

RE: Bolt on Power Pods...
Here's a pic of the nearly completed pods...
(full sized hyperlink)
http://www.crazyherb.com/NewStuff/pods.jpg
Pods only ended up about 10 inches long and 2 inches wide...
2.5 oz tanks done up ah-la film can style...
I got a bag of 4 travel containers from walmart for like $1.50...cheap fuel tanks!!
I agree the 48 inch span is a bit overkill...but I like the "glider-like" wing loading of the bigger wing...and BIG surfaces...
I'll probably be using 2 standard servos and smaller rx pack (like 350 mah).
I can always trim it down if its too much...
Much like my GIANT DELTA... it's 86 inch span with a .47...still only weighs in at 4.5 lbs..it "looks" like too much wing for the motors...but they fly great...
My original CheapDelta is 36 in span x 24 in chord and flew SO good...I figured another 12 inch span and twice the thrust would be fun..

Fun stuff..
Glad I could help Raymond!! Post a pic or e-mail me if you get one going!
Enjoy!
