Default Maybe you guys can help...

I'm not getting anywhere in the ARF forum, and I thought maybe some of you guys can help me out. Has anyone flowm the IC version of the Ripmax Alienator? Has anyone flown it with an AP .15? It's supposed to be optimized for an MDS .18, so the AP is way light. I balanced with the LG & pants, and wonder what to expect when I go to fly it. Any insights?

Thanks

Doug:

It would seem nobody has that plane.

From the looks of it, the Shrike would be similar in flight

I have one! I have not built it yet but I read in an English mag where the guy fiberglassed the good parts in order to get her strong and fuelproof. He also ran an OS .25 FX. That is what I was planning to run in mine. I have read they tend to fold on the wing if overloaded so you may want to consider adding a CF spar or two. Other than that those who have flown them like the fact they will not stall due to the forward swept wing.

Oh, I've used .7 oz glass & polyurethane on the wings and lower fuse. I also tried to cut weight by using PU glue & toothpicks instead of epoxy. The mystery is whether or not the AP will fly it with the addition of the LG.

Sorry the mag used an MDS 18. Send me a pm with a fax number and I will fax you a copy of the article from the July 02 Model Flyer when I get to work tomorrow.

Well, there's a thread I started on that plane in here somewhere, it may be gone from lack of interest. It flies opposite a Delta, slower rolling, doesn't stall nearly as easily, and will loop on a dime. Anyways, I used an AP .15 on mine, flew it very well. I sold it about a year, actually became kinda boring to me, it flew too well.
I don't know about that landing gear you added though, that adds alot of weight and drag, you my need a bigger engine to compensate. I'd say for what you want, the AP .15 is minimums for the stock Alienator.

That AP .15 did best for me with a 8x5 prop. 7x? props were to small and 8x6 would cause it to load up.
