Default Please ID This Motor

This motor has literally been sitting in my closets for 30 years.
I have no idea what it is - I don't fly anything this small.

Cylinder and piston crown show no sign of rust/peeling.
Turns freely. Compression seems good.

Can you guys ID this thing? Is it worth putting up for sale?

Marty,

It's a Cox 190 .049 engine. It's worth a few bucks for parts. What do you want for it?

Later,
Tim

Looks ike a 70's era Cox "product engine" used on the u/c RTF planes like the PT-19, etc. It has the "postage stamp" back plate that slips down into a slot and was held in by rubber bands. Your engine does have the Carl Goldberg accessory backplate attachment that allows it to be mounted to a standard ply firewall. Same mount spacing as the standard Babe Bee/Black Widow tank. Dey don' make dem no mo. The engine doesn't have any special value....the Goldberg backplate adaptor might be worth something to someone that really needs it.

Wow, sorta like the "Antiques Roadshow!"

That's a cox 'product engine' out of a '70s control line plane probably. .049 reed valve.
The fact that it has the nylon bracket on the back so it can be mounted to a firewall makes it worthwhile to use still..

(how DO you mount a postage stamp engine without that bracket??)

I bought one like it off e bay for nine dollars, but yours looks to be in much better shape- mine met with pliers!

Just look on this forum for 'LS 150' to see a typical plane to put it on.

..edit-- wow, when I started typing, there were no replies, when I finished, there were many! ha.

Milton,
Good call on the CG "adapter" plate! They used to come with their 1/2a CL kits
so ya could use the engine off of your bashed up PT19 in your new Lil' Jumpin Bean!
Sure would like to get hold of a dozen of them little gizzmos now.
But like C0x, they probably would ignore the cries of real modelers...
Dave
OK, not as bad as C0x...

Dave I used to have a half dozen or so of the CG adapters around the shop but they all got away from me except for one which I'm gonna hang on to. I remember seeing them in our LHS when they came in the little packages with instructions showing how to make a ballon tank and were stacked up on a long display rod....musta been 25 or 30 of them!

I'll ask around and see if anybody's still got a few they can spare.
