Attaching canopy. Screw or glue.
I was going to glue and seal my canopy onto my model but I see some people screw them on. As it is so much easier is it a good idea?
I doubt that fuel in the canopy would be much of an issue.
Cheers

RE: Attaching canopy. Screw or glue.
I like to use canopy glue on mine.
I just saw a plane break in half through the canopy screw holes at the top back of the cockpit. There was a structural runner down both sides there, and the screws went right through the middle, at the back of the area. It hit cornstalks, so it might have broken in two anyway, but the screw holes were definitely the weak spot in this instance.
If you choose screws, try to put them through the sheeting, and glue a hardwood block on the inside to take the screw.
That's my recommendation,
Dave Olson

RE: Attaching canopy. Screw or glue.
Thanks
I was thinking of actually gluing a separate strip of wood inside the cockpit for the screw.
Sorry about the racing car driver. Working on a budget and got given him.
Cheers

Hi Gasayers, is that Greg Murphy, Steven or Jim Richards flying that thing. If its Jim watch out for kangaroo's. (Aussie joke.. Jim hit one in our annual 1000km. touring car race at Bathurst last weekend.) At least we can beat you Kiwi's at Rugby sometimes. Oh, I like to glue canopies on, which isn't as easy as it used to be with celluloid ones, the polycarbonate types around these days mean it can be a real pain finding a suitable adhesive. If all else fails try a little contact cement.

Kangaroo's move to fast. We use judder bars to slow our cars down. Perhaps you could remind me. Where did the winner of that Bathurst race come from?
I've temporarily screwed the canopy on until I get a joystick for the pilot. How do you keep contact adhesive tidy?
Does 5min epoxy or silicon work?
I had so suck my canopy down from clear perspex of some sort.
Cheers (means "Cheers mate" for you Aussies)
