RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?
Well for engine I have a couple of Cox .049 Surestart but I don't know if that is good enough, other wise I'll have to get a .074 (plannig on having one on hand) and if that is the case I wonder if I can add another servo for throtle and will it still have to be hand launch?

I join sheets like CP described. Tape the seam, flip and wood glue for full sheets. For shorter pieces, like the vertical stab on the LST, I use the wax paper and CA method.
BTW, both vertical stabs are shown in the GIF and PDF plans.

Yes, you will want a servo for throttle if you use a throttled engine. Any cheap sub-micro will do. You should have no problem taking off of relatively short grass with a .074. Small planes work well on mowed grass as tail draggers or trikes, even with small wheels. Here are videos of some of my planes taking off of grass, all with 1.5" wheels.

Now that you mention it, I guess I don't have any videos where you can hear a Norvel .074. Most of my older video clips don't have sound.

You can make the tips from either the 1/16"or 3/32" sheet.I made them from 3/32" for combat,,,(with the ground). To stay light, use BALSA .You`ll need 1/8" sq. stock too. I remember laminating 1/16" sheet together,to make a 1/8" sq.[:@] because it wasn`t on the list.
Does you LHS sell Dubro, and GREAT PLANES hardware ,If they ,do I can give you part numbers,With a list of what I used.

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?
Thanks for the picture I really clarified the location of the dihedral brace.
Yes they carry both brands of hardware. Also I cut my ribs out of 1/16 balsa as it shows in the copy of plans I have but the materials list shows it should be 3/32. I'm I ok with 1/16 or do I need to re-cut the ribs out of 3/32?

PLAN is Right ,list is Wrong..No the ribs out of 1/16" sheet is perfect the list was wrong..I made them out of 3/32"sheet, and BIPE caught me .SO trying to save anywhere, and ,everywhere,I remade them(ribs), with 1/16"sheet..When are you going to the Store.I`m still, kind of,messing, with these skis.I was asking about your engine because. If you go with a NORVEL 0.074".I had to move, the firewall back, also the engine mount is larger, than the one needed for the smaller NORVEL 0.061".BIPE want my dimensions. for an ADDENDUM??(seems like it`s going to balance out nicely...I never did check any dimensions for the Cox engines,(firewall setback ,or move ahead) .These Details ,are realy very minor to do ,if you plan ahead, a bit,and make a definate choice on your power source.BIPE drew this plane up with a 0.061" NORVEL ,so no changes are needed,if you use that engine. If you use the 0.074".The nose wheel ,wire straps, wouldn`t work on the firewall(no room)either, so I decided, to make it steerable, off the rudder servo.......
.WHAT hardware do you have at this point FLYbug?
.ANDREW,if you SEND me your mailing ADDRESS , I`ll send you a C.D. of all these pictures , I have ,of this project . I THINK it would be better, than me posting PICTURES twice in the thread.....DAVE B.

BIPE can you help him with a parts list Wires etc .If not I`ll help him out, once I get a few things done ,with my SKIs.Looks like, I finally got a set of KEEPERS this time.Yeaah!!! THE fire wall Dimensions are on page 9 post #218
FLYb;;Page 6 ,This thread. There is lots of hardware pics, and, Biper has some addresses listed ,there too. That is a good place, to start familiarizing yourself with what some of the hardware .. Don`t bother buying any of the steering parts that I have posted there, make your own from the left over landing gear wire, and a bit of brass stock, soldered to it..THAT motor mount is good ,it has flats and center lines molded into it, so it`s easy to drill, and set-up on the firewall.I`m sure there is other brands available ,but this one was easy to work with.and I could probably put a slightly larger engine between the beams, but doubt ,I ever will.

WELL I broke my Tap and I need to buy another. Also will have to make another Ski lock(tap is stuck in the part).Heres a couple pics .Still not finished, but gives a good idea of the concept.NO springs,No torque rods,No rubber bands running from tip,to gear leg, to heel. O ring is used as a bumper for a bit of flek..D shaped(billet) Ski lock, and notched screw, adjusts the LAY of the ski,(tip high, orlow)on the Axle..It also prevents the ski, from falling off the axle.I think it should work..

Wow, that's a really neat idea for locking the ski into place. The skis are looking great.
I read somewhere that the spring is required so that the tips of the skis wont dig in on landing, but will still lay flat after touchdown. I've never tried skis, but floats can't pivot and they work OK. Do you think it will be a problem?

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?
I think this will work ..When I lock the Ski, to the Axle, I`ll put the ski tip at ,1 or 2 ,degrees high. That will help it stay floating, on top, of the powder snow too.I would think the more parallel, that I can keep the skis, to the wing, the better the flight characteristics(less frontal area=less drag) would be.The only way ,I can see the tips digging in, is if you would come in, nose first on landing, and didn`t flare,at all.But then thats not landing ,that`s crashing.A good flare = good landing...
I couldn`t find a TAP in my nearby HICKTOWN yesterday.BUT my neighbour has a ,Tap and Die kit ,I think .So I`ll go get one, from him,and get these skis mounted, and checked out.THEN I can glue the parts together ,finally...
.I`ll make a short Video, of a simulated landing, with flare.I`ll have to practice my simulated Norvel 0.074" engine sound,first..

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?
Dave, I like your idea. I havent used skiis with a nosewheel configuration so it will be neat to hear your experience.
I was surprised at the amount of force it took to hold the skiis at the right angle. My skiis wanted to rotate forward even on the most gentle of landings and takeoffs. The wheel collar/set screw setup I had was not adequate to hold it in place no matter how hard I fastened the set screw. Did a fly by and one was pointing down! I ended up having to file a flat spot on the axle rod to get a good bite and that solved the problem. Make sure yours cant slip out of place like mine did.

here you go FYLBUG.Wet the OUTSIDE of the SHEET to get it bend.Sheet the Top first .THEN build up a frame, for your servo to sit in the notched CENTER ribs. Then you can sheet, The bottom in..
