Default Twin opposed cylinder 1/2A engines?

I was thinking about those twin opposed engines I see here and there. Would it be possible to fuse two engines and just use the same pin for the two conrods? I realize that in an opposed twin this would cause some major vibration, and the firing would be...

gee, I just realized there would be a problem with the firing (guess it wouldn't suck air into the chambers). []

Ok then. So let's say we had an opposed cylinder design with a third bearing in the backplate to support it the second cam and pin, how hard would it be to make it work? Would I need to make a new crankcase or can I just buy another crankcase, carefully cut at the right places, and fuse them at the line where the mounting flanges touch the engine mount (on a single engine)?

What other problems might I run into, were I to undertake this sort of project?

Some of us have built them... too tired to look up the threads but have a look (from last year).

Hey AJ, There was a guy on another forum looking for plans for a .049 twin. Any idea where I can find some plans for one? Thanks, Tim

Ok cub mentions on [link=http://okengines.com/news.shtml]their site[/link] that they are developing a reed-valve twin.
I wonder how that's coming along.

Does OK advertise these special runs of engines anywhere? (perhaps in "Model Trains" magazines?) I read on their site that XXX was tried but not well accepted so they dropped it. I had not heard of it before that.

Who does their marketing? I would think a decent run (no pun...well, maybe pun) of their .049 and .075 diesels might be well accepted. They were light and ran well.

George
