RE: AP Wasp .061 on sale again
Well to buy just the throttled carb for my Big Mig .061 is almost as much as that engine on sale. How does the AP compare to the Norvel?

RE: AP Wasp .061 on sale again
I had two Wasp .06s, one of the very first and one I got last year. Well made, AAN, throttles well, power some 1000 less than Norvel Revlite. My big beef is that the recent one is brass bushed on the crank. A good thing normally but the fit is sloppy to a degree that if you wiggle the crank, you can see the piston lift 1/64" or so. Real sloppy. Yet, it runs and throttles well. Go figure. The downside is a lot of fuel spits out the front end as you would expect. Good price, may get another.
Also, being AAN construction, break-in isn't as intense a procedure as it is with the Norvel. The other benefit is that the piston pin is held in place with an honest to gosh circlip. The Norvels are permanently staked in place.
For me though, the big plus is that the carb body lends itself to having an adjustable airbleed added. For me that's a stark necessity.
I buy Wasp throttles and install them on Norvels, just to get the adjustable airbleed.

RE: AP Wasp .061 on sale again
The APs' performance is good enough to hover a 13 oz plane. The thrust comparisons I made last year gave the slight edge to the NORVEL, but the AP is more than adequate to have good carefree fun with. Plus they throw in a handy prop nut/spinner. I flew about 600 sorties with the AP and about the same with the NORVEL last Summer[I was out of work and my son was on convalescent leave] and there was virtually no difference.
