2005 1/2A Design Contest Shirts/Entry fee
What do you guys think about an entry fee and shirts for the design contest? A few ideas have been batted around, but I don't think that we've come to a decision.
The first option, an entry fee, would require someone in the group to take the fees, have the shirts made and send them out. The entry fee would keep out the less serious entrants. The fee would be set by the person having the shirts made.
The second option is easier to administrate, but each entrant would have to order the product from an online "gift store" such as http://customink.com/ or http://www.cafepress.com/ . The advantage is that you would have more choices like a shirt, mousepad, mug, bumper sticker etc.
I set the cutoff for this poll to midnight Dec. 31st.

OK. Shirts from your fee option.
Can they be done by say . . . the end of March with everyone's name, who entered and paid, or do the winners have to be determined and listed on the shirt?
Can folks who support the dialog here, but who do not build a machine buy a shirt?
I'm thinking the shirts we have made for CL Combat cost us about $10 - $12 bucks. I can find out for sure later today when it gets daylight.

I voted for someone doing the legwork for me. Well, I won't let past issues prevent me from trusting someone else. The cost would be much higher if we do it individually. Heck, we could have it both ways. Those that want to group together to get the t's or whatever could do it even if we decide to go with the downloadable logo. (which I would like to have anyway)

Actaully, in the quantities that we are purchsing, the cost has proven to be as high, or higher, having someone in the group do it. For example, cafepress sells shirts for $13.99 to $16.99, depending on the shirt, whereas the shirts for the first contest cost $20. The online stores use a process similar to laser printing which allows full multi-colour. The shirts we ordered for the first contest had a setup fee for silk sceening in addition to the shirt fee and were only two colours. We each sent $10 for the second contest with the idea of having the first years artwork being used.
Larry,
In the past we had to pre-pay so that the person doing the shirts would have the money in hand when he had them made. I don't know if they can be done by March. IIRC, in 2003 it took until Nov. and we still don't have the 2004 shirts.

Hey, cafepress has thongs too! Get some with "Property of Patrick" on'em and pass'em out!
That actually works pretty good. I'll change my vote.
BTW. Those are girls thongs.

Here are some examples of MACA (CL Combat SIG) shirts that have been done over the years.
I think we could get some like these made and send them out to all the designers/builders (and others if they wanted one) for $15 US, or so.
If the vote /poll goes that way I will volunteer be the get 'em made and send 'em guy.
I believe we should have some 'Name on the Shirt Cutoff Date" so folks can have their shirt before flying season. Say . . . April.
How have you come up with the design in past years?

Rrragmanliam offered to do the shirts in the thread at the following link, so if we go that route you guys will have to decide who is going to do it.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/2005...2368298/tm.htm
I did the design for the first year, based on the old RCU logo. It was supposed to be used again for the second year.
I'd prefer to concentrate on the web site and contest itself rather than shirt design, so if anyone else wants to do the shirt design, feel free.

I voted for the downloadable logo. If I figure out what I'm going to do for the contest (if I will do it) then I'd want a big logo that can be stuck or covered onto a wing or side of the airplane I built. Downloadable means you can still alter the colors a little before putting it on your plane, so as to make it fit or show better. Also, I'd be able to get it in a black shirt - I'm always so careless that I usually put a big bright spot in the middle of a white shirt very fast in its lifetime. []

I remember that now.
RM, sorry to butt in. I'll retreat off the field in embarrassment.

I've decided that I'm going to play this year.. so.... let me know where to send the money for the shirt. Haven't got the slightest idea of what I'm going to design... but.. it will probably be something in the 1/2 A pattern category........ more fun !!

I'm in again! I would like to get a shirt made up and will send the cash for it to whom ever is in charge. I have had a time problem for the last year, and I don't really see an end to it. I miss this group and hope to connect a little more.
If you will have me again, that is.
I will think up a plane to disrespect and make a stab at it!!
