What % nitro and oil is your fuel? What% of oil is castor?

Isn't 4-stroke fuel something like 16% oil? You need 20% oil with at least some castor. I prefer to run 20% all castor in my Norvels.

I just received via Brown Elf, 3 quarts of Norvel fuel. It states an 18% oil content and says the oil is Klotz, but not what kind of Klots. I suspect Klotz Benoil. This fuel is stated to be manufactured by Sig Manufacturing Co. Previous Norvel fuel I have purchased was produced by Wildcat. The fuel is available in 15, 25 and 35% nitro.

I typically add a small dollop of castor to this fuel and have run it in Norvel, Cox, and a variety of older 1/2 as-OK, Spitzy, K&B etc.

I wrote Norvel and asked about the oil. The response I got was vague and irritating. His answer was "Klotz is synthetic". Well, one kind is I guess, but not all. It is no longer made by Wildcat. When I wrote them asking about the oil, the only response I got was they no longer made Norvel or Cox fuels. Even though their website still claims they do.
Needless to say my next bottle of fuel won't be Norvel...

I got this response from Norvel.

Andrew,

Norvel fuel is a blend of castor and synthetic.

Ohhhhh a little of this, a little of that.

Most fuel manufacturers are pretty vague on actual percentages. That's why I get Red Max fuel custom mixed from FHS Supply. You just tell them what percentages you want and what oil type and they'll send it to you in quart containers.

Oil is the most expensive component, slightly more than nitro. The companies that guard their recipes are doing so because if they advertised the oil content, you wouldn't buy it. If they can tell you what the nitro % is, why can't they divulge what the oil is and in what amounts? You can't go wrong with RED MAX or SIG or FOX fuel because you will know what you are getting. Most of the time I buy cheap LHS 15% and top off each gallon jug with SIG caster. You should see the 15% burn in my AMEs or the FORA, that's all you need to have good performance and some fun.

My Norvel .049s run fine on Byron 25% with 16% all castor, and the .074s run Omega 15% with 20% 50/50 oil.

Proper fuel is important for any engine. I've run many brands with various nitro contents and have never had any problems. Never have run 4 stroke fuel however. Can you not get two stroke fuel?

In any case, idling and throttling issues with the Norvel .061 and .049 has nothing to do with fuel. The issue is lack of some means to adjust the idle mixture. Do a search on my past posts for my take on the subject.

Do you have a tach and can you give us some top and bottom numbers? In other words, at what rpm WILL it idle at?

Hey Rog, did you know Norvel recommends NOT using Coolpower! Check the tech articles on their site. I'm going to put an order in to Red Max soon.
