My .049 Cox Easy Start Needs a Home
Hey all, I figure this would be the best forum to ask if any of you guys know of a good plane that I could purchase for this engine. Money is a little tight, so I'm thinking of doing a kit for my next plane, that way I can take my time and purchase things as I need them. It would be my 1st kit and second plane, I'm currently flying a Hobbico Superstar 40 trainer and will plan on flying that for some time yet, at least till this spring.
Thanks All!

If money is a little tight then save even MORE and scratch build something like the LST trainer or the LS150 if you're comfy with flying or even the Das Not Ugly aileron adaptation of the LS150. Any of these options can be built for far less than a kit. Plans are downloadable and free to get you started. But you need to join the Yahoo group where they reside at 1/2A All the Way.
Don't worry about tackling a scratch build. These designs are easy to build, use a minimal amount of parts and you can get all the help and advice you need from right here.

I'm having a hard time finding the plans for the Das Not Ugly on the sites you mentioned. Is there a place where I can find them?
Thanks again guys.

I highly recommend Patrick Ulmer's site that Andrew mentions. I'm currently building the DNU I got from him and he's been spectacular in helping me with my (probably annoyingly simple) questions as this is my first kit build. The Cox Surestart .049 is what I'll put on this baby with a Sullivan 1oz Slimline tank.

When I went home last night I got the itch and started looking a little more closely at my motor, it is actually a Cox Black Widow .049. Better or worse engine? I'm excited about starting my build. I'm thinking I'm going to start this weekend, pick up some balsa from my LHS and start. I'm probably going to go piece by piece, I'm also going to start a build thread I think. That way I can get all the help I need.

I think the Black Widow and the Surestart are pretty much the same engine and performance except the BW has a self contained fuel tank. I'm going with the Surestart since it's only 7 bucks! I already have the 1oz fuel tank that I'll mount directly behind the firewall.
I just finished the wing this morning with the exception of the rear brace which I'll put on after I build the fuse (want to make sure I have the right fit). You'll see that I opted for dual servos for the ailerons instead of the single mid-mount servo the plans call for. Patrick helped me through developing the hardware required to do this.

I bought a set of plans for a 1/2A schoolyard scale Citabria, its 39" wingspan and is all real easy stick built type. If you ever built a stick and tissue piper cub this is very similar to that. Im looking forward to building a couple this winter for next summer, a sure-start would have no trouble pulling it as it is all open framework construction.
