Default Little Spitfire

This ones electric, but I thought you guys might like it. It's a little Spitfire that friend of mine designed and built. It is really cute and flies nice. It has a Jedelsky style wing, a 180 motor and A/E/T control.

Here's a link to the power system. Motor, prop, ESC and battery for 20 bucks!

Here is a video clip of the maiden.

Bipe, is this Paul's new and improved version or old pics of the prototype? The original flew great... right up until the sheet balsa wing collapsed. Just a little bit more strength in the wing and this bird would have been a champ. And if this is the new and improved version then great!

This is the new and improved version. Stronger wing, nicer shaped fuselage, canopy and a larger spinner. The old one was a little sensative on the elevator, but this one is very smooth.

Here's a picture and video clip of the original, for comparison.

Jedelsky style wing = SWR? Looks really nice. The music even had me tapping my foot.

Jedelsky is similar to SWR. It is a wing made of two sheets of balsa joined at an angle to create undercamber and then sanded to an airfoil shape on top. Sometimes ribs are used underneath.

Here's a little plane he built with the same power system. I'm trying to convince him to enter the 2006 design contest.

That's stupendous performance from such cheap power! [X(] If PAUL didn't spend so much time with the DBAT planes, he would have much more time for the 1/2A contest. DBAT in the summer is pretty hard to beat, though.

ORIGINAL: Bipe Flyer

Jedelsky is similar to SWR.
Hmmm?? I had never really thought about it, but the Jedelsky airfoil might be good competition for a pure SWR. All of the HONKER series (HONKER, HONKER ROCKET and HONKER BIPE) used the airfoil and the ROCKET was flown in a lot of class races in the mid 80's. SIG sells a 4" tapered sheet that is ideal for this airfoil -- plus a slight undercamber adds stiffness and a bit of lift in the turns.

Thanks for the video and pics.

CP,

Paul's been flying a bit of pattern and buying a bunch of the big Great Planes ARFs, if you can believe it.

Andrew,
I think you're right, it is quite fast. The high wing plane in the other video is about the same weight with the same power system, but has a built up flat bottom wing and it is much slower. The seam acts like a spar on the Jedelsky wing.

I think the span is 24". There are no plans. He built if from a 3-view.
