Some of those parts are available from Cox Corp. They have an internet site. I suggest you go there and get as many of the pieces as you can and then look here and at swap meets, etc. for the other parts. You are missing so much, you might also think of going on ebay and picking up a used TD for $30-40 and keeping your current TD for parts.

I don't know what your budget is, but cox lists new TD.049's for 49.99 plus about 10.00 shipping. Of course for that money you'd have a wide selection of engine choices. If your goal is to fix what you got take flyswatters advice. If you get a used one use the best parts of both to get a complete engine.

I've found TD parts from a guy named Darrin Albert out in California. I seem to has lost his Email address but, he sells on Ebay under the name Combat Albert. You might see if he has anything up for sale on the bay and you can Email him and see if he's got what you need.

I emailed Darrin about some parts last week and he replied that he is about out of Cox parts.

With Norvel not shipping and VA not producing . . . we appear to be getting a bit short of plain bearing 1/2A choices.

To Larry's comments, does anyone know why Norvel is "out" of the majority of their motors? Anyone have an inside line on when they'll be back in stock?

There's also a guy named Coxmania on the bay although I've never dealt with him.

SHOULD we ,be buying up, whatever we can get our hands on? Is this, cause for concern, that the manufacturer, is "FOLDING up"??POSSIBLY,a marketing strategy, for them to drive prices up,as the demand rises???COULD they be waiting for the consumer,to get over the "Shell shock" of inflated prices. Then when the consumers are, "adjusted" ,to the inflated pricing, start to produce again, and, leave the new higher prices ,on the products, that the demand has set for itself ..SOUNDS like a good oportunity, for a New kid on the block,to manufacture a, high quality ,low cost, designed and produced engine ,in NORTH AMERICA.MEXICO MAYBE.LOTs of "Big TIME"manufactures have been setting up shop there now .

.I can buy a BigMig 0.061"at a LHS $80.00 though.Do I, or ,Don`t I ?

Have you tried Norvel's SHOPATRON? They pool associated hobby shops. I got a .25 that way. Never heard of the shop it shipped from.

I wouldn't worry, norvel are made in russia, and it's winter, so the container ship is probably sitting behind a rusty icebreaker waiting for a plutonium shipment to fuel the icebreaker, but the truck that has to deliver the plutonium to the dog sled driver is also out of fuel, due to the war in you name it. Give them a few dozen weeks, they will be back, happens all the time.

On topic, I've bought from coxmania and all was just fine. It may be cheaper though to buy a beat/smoked/whacked tee dee off ebay for parts.

I can't find anyway to get to the old catalog on Norvel's site.

Norvel is not on the Shoptron list that comes up when I click catalog on the Norvel site.

The site seems to have changed.

Hello Larry --

I've emailed Ed Stevens WRT the NORVEL site -- perhaps he will respond either directly or here on the forum

Sorry to continiue a sort of hijacked sub-topic, but i did manage to get to norvel engines via sig mfg's obnoxious site..
sigmfg.com, then find the engines, then norvel etc.. they even list the dealer prices.. if your browser window is two feet wide.

here's just the frame link
http://www.sigmfg.com/cgi-bin/dpsmar...rch_02Index_01

oh yeah, that's bound to work..

to make up for it, here's the link for tee dee parts via cox

Larry,

Is that the end of VA engines or they just otherwise occupied at the moment?

I think it may be the end, of that particular design anyway.

The neat thing about it was that it is a very nice engine that VA built rather quickly after we got going and, in retrospect, was moderately priced.

The other thing is that small producers and small runs of items from small outfits may not be forever.

If Norvels remain scarce I may need to look for another source that will build a high performance plain bearing 1/2A for under $100 US. There are some fine ball bearing .049s and .061s readily available.
