Someone here or that dropped by a while back played with 1/2A spad designs and his general feeling was that they were too heavy to fly well as I recall. Now if you were to get the very thinnest (3 or 2 mm?) coro and design to suit the material I think it would work well. But so far no one I know of has come up with any really decent high performance designs. Certainly the usual chop-chop designs do not translate well to smaller sizes.

I agree on the weight factor. I've done some experimenting with coroplast, and the standard 4 mil stuff you can find from old signs just won't work. 2 mil stuff might work out better, but it's not generally available unless you order some from a supplier. Now, there's a type of foam board with a thin papered skin on it I've seen in the craft stores that I'm going to try out.

Its not made of coro but Crazyherbs cheap delta is as close to the spad way of building that you can get. Find it at www.crazyherb.com. It flies great too.

I took Herb's plans for his 36" Cheap Delta and scaled them back to a 30" span. The 30/36 scaling ratio works very well with the larger dimensions. I also used 1/2" blue foam instead of 3/4". With a little planning, you can cut 8 complete planes from a 4x8 sheet.

Like FP said, it flies pretty well (especially for a $3.00 plane).

Can't remember who, but a guy made a lttle bipe from styro meat trays & some balsa, we figured it could be all meat tray but the firewall... I'll try to find the thread

That may be more modeling than you want to do, but the construction medium & techniques could be used on a spad design... and oops, the DR1 is a triplane, not a bipe
