A TRIBUTE TO MY SON, CHARLES IV

Chuck.......I am very sorry for your loss. I grew up and was in college during the Viet Nam war. Most people then didn't know the value of our soldiers. Thankfully, brave men like your son have shown the people just how important the soldiers are. I lost 5 or 6 friends in Viet Nam and that was a grief ridden time. I simply cannot imagine losing a child. I will pray for your brave son's soul tonite and I will ask the Lord to be kind to you.

Guys this is sad news, I do wish war didn't have to happen let alone take away your loved ones God bless them all.
I was over there during the Gulf War, arrived the day prior to a multi ground to air attack that killed many men sleeping in a 5 story dormitory full of USAF security police. The entire side of the building was missing on its long side / south wall from the top down, with all the rooms exposed. We had two perimeters roads circled around our base with round the clock guards patrolling with M 60's and scud missile launchers setup every 200 yards around the compound. I was in a Civil Engineering Squadron to support a secret base in the desert. We flew in by night and left by night to help avoid ground to air attacks, folks would disappear all the time no information would be given we moved in groups of at least 3 to avoid trouble when outside the base.

Hi All,
This thread makes my tearducts work.
In a good way. Somehow.
I am so frigging fortunate.
Charles IV, and all those before and after him,
Have that 'stuff' in them, that will never go away...
They had it all, then.
Appreciation is what they deserve.
Respect is all we can give them.
I hoist a pint high,
To Charles IV,
Cheers,
Dave'crosscheck'Fallowfield

Chuck and your Family;
Thank you for the sacrifice of you and your family for raising a fine man that became a soldier for our freedoms to fly our R/C Planes without worrying about a bomb hitting our R/C runways, or our homes. This Memorial Day Weekend, Your son will be thought first, along with all of the other Men and Women that have sacrificed the most valuable thing in life...........their lives. My Brother served 11-13 tours in the Fu*^$n Middle East. He is now Disabled Militarily diagnosed schizophrenic, but, he is still here to visit and talk with, when he is mentally here.
Best wishes as time helps heal your wounds. Dan

My sympathies and condolences go out to you and your family. Many think that Memorial day is only to commemorate a bunch of old dudes back in history who died a long time ago for this country. They forget (with the help of our national media these days) that our best and our bravest men and women are still TODAY! dying in battle and deserve the same respect and honor. Every one of these brave soldiers deserve the utmost respect. As citizens we must not allow them to ever be forgotten. We must also remember that America is still involved in a major conflict with our loved ones serving overseas and the decisions we make here affect them. They won't be forgotten in this family.
May the Grace of God always be with you and your family.

My thoughts and appreciation are on Charlie and many others this weekend. My almost 15 year old is considering the military and is currently in the Civil Air Patrol. I hope some day I can say the same about my son... coming into his own and worthy of honor serving his country.

Nathan, and the rest of our kids, are going to NCLA (North Carolima Leadership Academy) which is a public charter school focusing on "Leadership." One of the primary way the do this is CAP. There are many ways they can promote and be in charge pf other Cadets.
Also, this program can have huge benefits later, much like Boy/Girl Scouts, when entering the military.
Now with being said... I get the feeling that many students view it as they do band = boring, nerdy, etc. We just had a parent/student mtg with Nathan and he walked away excited. Lots of work now (promoting, physical tests, history lessons, marching, etc.) pay dividends later, say if you are shooting to be a pilot.
It will definitely be a journey...

Brian...kids just need to be reminded or taught that ounces of preparation [for life as an adult] will pay back tons of reward later in life.
Having aspirations to have a career in aviation at an early age is such a good sign. Very few people end up doing what they love to do for a living.

My most successful friends and acquaintances were the ones who were smart enough to realize this early in life.

Vic....nice to hear from you..! We've had 5 days without power already this year. On the bright side I collected 1/2 cord of wood on the driveway alone. Our new neighbors now realize I wasn't joking about carrying a chainsaw this time of year, before venturing down the hill.

Thanks for the acknowledgments Gents..!
That Yukon Jack looks good, too..!
The past several months I drive past the old flying site every day on the way to getting coffee. The huge building in the center of the field looks almost done. They haven't put in the parking lot yet.
RC flying of all sorts has been outlawed in the City Limits. This field was just on the very edge of the boundary.
So my interest in motorsports has shifted. At my age there was a sense of urgency to get another "ground up" car build done. 6 months into it, over 90% of the nasty metal fab, welding, grinding is done on this Datsun 280Z. It's nice to be able to say that since the old eyes don't take the pounding as well as they used to.
So, it's got a complete 2x3 steel tubing frame, original front crossmember / steering spliced into the new frame
Ford 302, 7000 rpm pieces
c6 trans with 10 inch converter
9 inch rear with my own design 4 bar suspension, 4.10 gears, Detroit Locker, Moser axles, M&H 28 x 12 Street Slicks
The idea is to keep it light, but streetable and water tight. I'm hoping for much less than 3000 pounds!

Good to hear from you Chuck!!!!!
Congratulations on your Z project, Do you have a link to the build thread?
The small block 302 what HP are you shooting for? I like the shape of the
280Z !
According to Wikipedia my 350Z comes in at 3404 lbs
@ 6.8k rpm / 316 hp with a K&S air kit / per reviews.
It's a real treat to drive around as a daily.

From a guy that can build, test, rebuild and occassionally destroy three RC models in the space of a week, this doesn't surprise me.
So far today, I smeared some spackling putty into the LE of a 10" span balsa stab and broke a sweat.
Good to hear from you Chuck, and warm thoughts are headed your direction for Charlie.
