Default Great Deal on Servos

I was at the LHS and they showed me the new Venom Air Corps Night Ranger 3D RTF Electric Heli. Cute, but not really what I'm into. Then he showed me the replacement servo set. $20.50 for 3 micro servos that look suspiciously like a Futaba S3108 7.6g servo. And that's Canadian dollars! They don't come with horns or screws, the the Hitec ones fit.

The part number is in the first picture if you want to try and find some.

I found a couple of links. Both appear to be single servo price.

Bipe,

Looks like you scored big time. The package is marked 1 piece so it's either a missed packed package or something as google finds only the servo sold 1 per pack for around $14.00. Did he have more than one package like that?

Later,
Tim

I thought that it might have been mislabelled too. It was the only one that they had in stock, but he assured me that that was the way they were supposed to come. He even called the wholesaler when I asked about the horns. I guess I'll find out when they restock.

Here's another link. It says 1pc, just like on the package. No picture though.

I think I might have gotten lucky. I'll let you know what the next package has in it when they restock.

The speed and torque ratings aren't on the packaging, but here are the Futaba S3108 specs.

sounds plenty good for this HOB mustang, even for the ailerons... if the next ones that come in are three packs.. it would be so very very nice.. ifnot, oh well, was nice while it lasted.

Bipe:
Just a thought, but if they are copies of Futaba servos, how do you know they aren't copies of the S3109?
I guess it will become apparent when they are put under a little stress.

These servos and the 3108 both weigh 7.6g and the 3109 weighs 6.5g.

Not exactly as good as a 3 for 1 deal but Servo City has the Hitec HS-81MG (metal gear) and the HS-85BB on sale for 20% off.
Just FYI.

I just tested them. They turn when I move the stick on the transmitter, so that's a good sign.

I put 21.6oz on a 5/8" arm and it was able to lift it no problem. So if my calculations are correct, they have at least 13.5 oz-in of torque. I didn't keep adding weight until the servo stalled, so I don't know the maximum torque, but it looks like it could well be the same as the Futaba.

My LHS sells the parts for that Heli, so I imagine the servos would be available there too.....Good find on that deal!

FWIW, I've been flying the Futaba s3110 on my Edgelings for a while now. I also fly them in my Electric foamies. They are extremely fast, center perfectly and have great torque. They really are my favorite new servo.....

Hey Jeremy,

Are you using a 4.8 or 6 volt pack in you gassers? Just curious.

I went to the LHS today and they don't have any more in yet. Apparently the heli is new and the distributor has had trouble keeping all the parts in stock. They are picking up product this Friday, so he'll try to get more then. I asked him again if he was sure that there should be 3 in a package, and he said yes. He said he will order 6 sets. I've attached their business card if anyone wants to order some.
