12 dollar FM 5chan mico RX sale at HL with Crystal!
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/crash.htm
After 8 am central time, the blue arrow five channel with crystal included is on sale today for twelve dollars each.
I have a couple, and all I can say about them is they look good and work fine across the room, not flown one yet.
Come in a nice clear box too, for what that's worth.
Twelve dollars for a receiver with the crystal included is amazing! Also some servos are on sale.

That was fast, they sold out- but not to worry, that price is ok for back order too..
I hope my order made it under the wire..
I think a JR crystal alone is fifteen dollars...
I wonder if those blue arrow servos are worth a flip, I ordered four of the bigger ones, so I guess I'll find out soon enough!

Well I manage to get a couple before they sold out, of course my shipping was not US$2.50 they billed me US$7.99 for shipping. All in all it is still a deal.[8D]
EDIT:
They credited the difference in shipping (US$5.49)

The cheap shipping comes about once they get humans involved, the web site always slaps 7.99 shipping on there, then after a while, you get an email saying the order has been revised to a new number and the 2.50 is there instead.. Probably no easy way to make the database program be able to figure out if the little box can fit the order.

Thanks, Clint! I asked them on the feed back questionaire about the shipping charge SNAFU. There was also an extended range micro RX listed that was dirt cheap. If they can afford to sell RXs for $12, it makes me wonder what the mfg. cost is?

For small models kept in close they'll be fine. But 700 feet isn't that hard to get out beyond. Especially for a trainer where the pilot gets behind the flight path and turns away instead of towards himself at the extremes.
For close in parkflyers they'll be fine as long as they are not single conversion. If they are SC types then don't fly with more than one or two other folks in the air at the same time and even then be on the lookout for glitches.
Having gone through all this with the Hitec Feather I'm a bit leery of the inexpensive Rx's other than for me on the field all by myself and only with slower models.

so if Sneasle got 3 of them 700' jobbies... that's 2100' right?
actually, if you redundant reciever & servos, and split the control surfaces:
RX A & RX B
ServoA1 Right aileron - ServoB1 Left aileron (yes, other side of horn)
ServoA2 Right Elevator - ServoB2 Left Elevator
etc
will the radios get Synch-Glitch by the same outside induced interference, or will they each have different glitchyness
---Doh! I wanted to get a spinner in the same box to save shipping..... but the dreaded Beast of Backorder hath caused them to put just the spinner in the box.... Wonder if I'm gonna get hit for a second shipping for the eventual RX only box... grrr

I have had to resort to using the feather in extremely tight applications. I usually am the only one flying at the time, and you have to remind yourself to keep it in close. I have used park flyer RXs in most of the GZ and FORA powered planes that I've built. At 700 feet, a man sized silouette looks like a peanut in a gun sight, so one of our little planes would actually be too small for me to tell if it's coming or going.

Well, I have tested several of the smaller single conversion mini receivers and they all tend to glitch with more that one model flying. I would strongly recommend NOT using these little units in the racers as most heats are 3 to 5 models. Last year's Reedie race saw a few wild crashes due to some interference issues. With a small part flier or even some of my slow 1/2A stuff the occasional glitch can be overlooked but with one of the faster racers one glitch usually means an out of control model and possibly a worse ending!!
I have been using the little Hitec 4 channel am or fm receiver that come with the Focus units and have yet had any problems. I have an Electron 6 in my Stingray Delta that did some strange things the last time out that I have not pinpointed the reason as of yet. The little FMA M5 receiver has also been bullet proof in my Baby Stick. Not quite as small but I feel a bit safer.

Keep it well padded and always know what your batterys' voltage under load is before releasing the plane. Always look to see that the control surfaces move before throwing the plane too. The antenna needs some sort of strain relief, also. I fold it back on the RX case and tape it .

Well the mail person showed up today with my RXs, they are smaller than I thought. Have to put them aside until the crystal are shipped (ch30 on back-order) still a great combo with today's servos
