Default Hoverin Halfa's!!!!!

Only truly hovering half-A I have seen so far is DickeyBird's Cornbread flying Thing.
Mike 912E is working on a little E3D kit with the TT, but I don't believe he has finished it yet, but it should hover when completed (Mike builds light)

I am currently working on a 1/2A funfly plane with BCapo right now for .049 or SP400. Weight should come in at about 8-9.5 oz's. Goal is to hover.

Why not scale down a design like the Sig Faser for your 049? Scaled down to 24 or 28" WS, keep the weight LOW like 8 to 10 oz and you should be in the ballgame.

rcmaster:

Go for a 16" X16" 1/2A Pizza Box Flyer. I have been having a ball with a 16" X 14" powered by a Norvel .074 which will hover at a high idle. That Norvel .061 would be perfect power for one that size.

Lots on info on RCU on PBF's.

Fly SMALL, Have A BALL

Also check out the Rotoruta auto gyro from RCM, plan number 714. It's single channel, but I build one with R/E/T and it flew great.

Presently I have a 15 sized version which I call a Roto Rooter. Lots of fun.

Default 16X16 PBF

hey ... now that's a good idea! I too have a .061 Norvell sitting around with no plane to put it in ...

I also have a GWS flight pack (pico BB servos, 4p receiver) from a defunct PICOSTICK-F. Do you think those tiny servos would have enough oomph to move the control surfaces? Wonder which size prop .... don't PBFs like high diameter/low pitch?

Humm ... the flight battery could be real small too ... 150 mah nicads should do fine ... no?

rc_crasher.......

If that name reflects your flying ability, then yes, you need a Pizza Box Flyer. Like the " battery bunny", they will last and last and last.

Yes, I think your flight pack would be perfect. On my 13 ounce 16" X 14" PBF powered by a Norvel .074, I'm using a HiTec 555 Rx, 250 mAh battery and four FMA 90 servos. I've crashed and bashed this thing over the last month and have yet to strip any servo gears.

I was the first to show up at the local field with one, now there are seven, all bigger than mine, but fly the same. We line up coffee cups on a picnic table and see who can knock them off with a tail touch first, all at the same time. What a hoot!!!!!!!

Ops!... Prop question......6 X 3 or 6 X 4 on the new RevLite I would think. I have a new one but have not run it yet, still trying to wear out my old AME's, which like a 5 1/2 X 3 Tornado white nylon.

Just get a reliable low speed on your engine, as these things fly best when not flown fast.

With a name like rc_crasher, I should stay away from scale!

Actually it might be time to update my name ... I've learned to fly now!

We have a guy who shows up the field with a PBF ... powered by an OS LA 25. It does great, especially when the 3D experts get some stick time on it. He also fashioned two PBFs into a X-looking thing that is meant to take off and land from vertical ... He put a gyro AND a co-pilot into that one!

Thanks for the info ... I'll hunt down some coroplast after the holidays and let you know how it goes!

Just take the prop off your plane, tie some fish line to the prop nut and hang the plane from a tree. Take a picture and tell your friends that this is your 1/2 a plane hovering. Saves a lot of time and effort.
