Default Best micro radio gear - opinions

Hi all,

I'm about to order some micro radio gear in the UK and thought I'd get some of your feedback before wading in. I want it as light as possible - to a degree, BUT it must be totally reliable and well made, with decent anti noise rejection and proper long range ability. For use with lightweight plane / glider starlite, 3ch with pb 033 diesel, to be used outside up to a long range.

Therfore I was going to order:

TX: Futaba 6EXA
RX: Futaba 114 (7.5g minus case)
servo's: Saturn Digital 44D (4.4g)

(I did consider other odd ball makes but not so sure, like Jeti, cirrus, hitec - but I think above is best for build etc).

Opinions appreciated...

Also, which size battery do you reccommend for TX & 3 micro servo's for 40 minutes of flight? Thanks!...

If you are looking for a lightweight option for the RX battery you might concider 2 LiPo cells with a voltage regulator.

Compared to NiCd and NiMh batteries, LiPo batteries have a very large energy density. However, the voltage of 2 cells is too high for use with "standard" RC equipment. The voltage regulator is used to lowers the voltage to an acceptable value for the receiver and servos.
If the right type of regulator is used, theoretically the battery can be discharged to its lower limit so its full capacity (in mAh) can be used. At this point the voltage for the RX is still 4.9V so it works well.

I use to set up my own regulators but some people use the built in BEC in an ESC.

Thanks for the info. However I'll be steering clear of lipo as I'll be wanting my plane to be in the air, not dug in the earth or on fire!

For nims / nicad what's an ideal size pack? 250?...

For the same sized plane I am using a Berg 4 ch Rx+3 HS 55s
With a smaller servo for throttle. 270 mah Nimh, about the same
weight as 110 Nicad. All up RTF less than 3 oz.
Diesel fuel tank is one oz. hotel shampoo bottle.
