Q-Tee 36"
I just pulled this kit out of my dad's house. I bought it back in '77. I didn't build it. I'm thinking I would like to build it now. I didn't really have the skills when I was 12 years old......
I'd like to use modern radio gear - not the Cox Swanna I kept all thease years. Maybe I'd power it with a .033 or .049 PAW RC diesel.
I'm thinking it would sure be nice to add ailerons. Maybe I'll build the standard wing and then work on a second set with less diheadral and a bit of curve to the bottom of the wing witth ailerons and maye two servos for "flaperons".
Anybody have any advice about designing for Ailerons.
Are there any plans already out there for a basic 36" wing with ailerons that I could folow?

Chevy, you can download a free plan at my website to look at. Ailerons should be easy to add. If the Q-Tee uses a preshaped trailing edge stock, you can just cut an aileron out.

For a flat winged Q-Tee with ailerons and a slighly undercambered wing, look no further for inspiration than the original Pietenpol Aircamper.

I had an uncle who worked on one for several years. He used VW(I think) engine instead of the model A engine shown on the plans.
He passed away before completing it. All the wood was done and some of the covering. His son has it now. Don't know if it will ever get finished.

I have many, many happy hours flying the Q-Tee, it's a winner.
I cannot see how it would be improved in any way by adding ailerons, it's just not that kind of plane. Get an S-tee, the shoulder-wing one, if you want to roll. It's not going to roll very well with the parasol wing, ailerons or not.
Enjoy it for what it is, a fun, fun, fun laze-around type of airplane, that will loop and do barrel rolls and stall turns and the entire two-channel repertoire, plus it's rugged and easy to build.
Either of the PAWs would be GREAT, but you could certainly use the additional power of the larger one.

Actually the Q-Tee with enough rudder throw should rudder roll quite well. The low center of gravity combined with the yaw/roll couple will swing 'er around nicely just like any high wing cabin model. If you want to enhance this then add about 3/8 to 1/2 inch more dihedral per side.

Chevy43,
A conversion to the S-Tee is very easy - just lower the wing to the fuselage, eliminating the cabane's. Also delete the center section cut-out that's used for the rubber bands, and the S-Tee bolts the wing on, not rubber bands like the Q-Tee. You'll also need to build up a turtle deck.
As far as aileron's go, you can get a lot of good roll out of the rudder, plus other rudder maneuvers that ailerons won't give you. From my experience flying both designs, I'd stay with the rudder.
If you want to see what the S-Tee looks like, PM me and I'll send you some pictures of mine - the fuselage has yet to be covered but the wind has.

RE: Q-Tee 36"
I love my Q-Tee. Black widow for power and standard servos. If I put the CG way back, you have a hand full that rolls very quick and is hot to land. Put the CG forward and you can glide for almost ever. This plane was the first one my Dad and I built when I was 13. I just finished a new one which brought back many memories. It just cries to be transparent orange.
