They are not a good beginners' engine. Most need a rod reset before they should be run. The tool to reset the ball socket costs 3 times as much as the engine. The same is true about running COX engines in general.....over the long haul the most trouble free and user friendly small engine is your sport .15s from the Orient. They don't need special oils, no break in, just standard fuel, bolt on the plane and go.

Jason, out of the 6 SS's I got I found that about 1/2 of them needed the rods to be reset (or more accuratley set properly in the first place).

I made up some tools a while back but I only have one left and no time to make more for now. But if you like I'll trade you pistons. I'll mail you a properly set piston and rod or two and you mail me back your stock ones. Or figure out how to get your pistons over to CP and I'm sure he'd be more than happy to set them up for ya.
