Ok, what did everyone haul home?
I saw two things that I couldn't walk past.[X(] One is what I believe to be an older, used AME .049 (glued on carb), but correct me if I'm wrong; and a brand new Norvel .074 - my first Norvel!
I just bench ran the AME and got 18,000 with an APC 5x7.3 on Byron 25% 1/2A fuel with castor added. Is that an ok figure, or did I get burned? I didn't try to peak it out all the way. I do know it's stronger than my AP Wasp .061. It was $17 including a DB mount, prop and NOS Sullivan 1oz tank.

David -
Like Rog said, you do indeed have an .061. The Big Mig and AME's look the same from the outside. Pull the muffler off and with the piston at BDC and a flashlight, count the intake ports. The Big Mig model has 5 round ports about the diameter of a matchstick - one directly across from the exhaust port and 2 closely spaced on either side. The AME will have 3 oblong ports.
On the earlier 1 piece crankcases, the Russian Cyrillic letters appeared. These translated roughly to AMD and stood for Aviation Model Engine (авиации модельный двигатель). The letters were later replaced with the English displacements for .049 and .061.
You got a good buy on both engines -- I saw a used .074 on theBay with a BuyItNow of 75.

I just missed Rainedav at the swap but did get a chance to talk with Raymond. Deadstick was meandering around as well but did not get a chance to talk with him.
I found a .049 Medallion R/C with the old style exhaust throttle for $20 and a used .051 TD w/ mount and Ace fine thread needle valve for $15. Also picked up a set of Hurst Bowers FM plans of the Barling NB-3 ($2) and (2) pairs of small light wheels for $1. I felt it was a good day.
A week ago I was in KS City and picked up a Saito .30 FS ($150) and a Norvel .074 ($52). These seem to be relatively hard to find nowadays so I picked'em up quick. To cover these costs I will be selling my O.S. .61 SF ABC-P (excellent condition) along with a Mac's muffler I bought for it awhile back. These were intended to go on my Direct Connection F-18 that is about 70% complete.
Anyways, I got to get a'crackin on building for all these new engines I have
Looking forward to the other upcoming swaps...

RE: WS Swap Meet
For once I did more selling than buying. I did buy two red-case TD .010s quite cheap BUT both have had the tank outlet removed - not broke off - removed. Whoever did it must have used a remote tank. Anyway I figured it would be a very simple task to drill out the opening and insert a short piece of metal tubing. My first thought is to use J-B Weld to reinforce the joint. Do you think anything else would work better?
As for reading the book. Louis Lamour western. I sometimes get bored at swap meets staring at the same people walking around and around and around. So, in this case I read about three shootouts and one cattle rustle - plus a pretty school marm.
Anyway, TANKS in advance for any help with the plastic/metal bond question.

Had fun seeing Raymond yesterday... He looked like a street hustler with his wares in front of him and a slight "trust me" look on his face....sounds like he was a bit successful in sales.... :-)
I missed Brian and David, but got up later w/ David in Greensboro while waiting for my Son to land at PTI....
Bought a 10 cc tuned pipe for next to nothing plus a NIB Super Tigre X .61 w/ Pipe for a GREAT price.... and bought some used MK retracts....I saw the engines David bought.. but figured I had enough small stuff at the shop.
Interesting observations from yesterday... the small electrics which seemed to take R/C by storm were available for a song..... guys I talked to mostly indicated "tired of it or didn't enjoy them" as the main reasons. I saw a $150 Quiet Storm go for $50 and it looked like it had flown 3 times... I should have bought it and put an OS .10 FSR in it.... Also saw MANY GIANT SCALE planes for sale... at what I considered give away prices.....there were more GS Good looking planes there than anything else... and the prices were exceptional...
I hope Burlington in January will bring out some more of the older stuff. I didn't see but one kit that was more than 5 years old.... and it didn't fly well when it was being produced !!!....
Looking forward to seeing everyone in Burlington... I like Bob's idea of another "Group Shot"
time to make the pattern ships....

You'll really like the Norvels and will quickly notice their overall superiority to the APs once they're broken in and with a couple of quarts of fuel through 'em. My AP sits on a glider / trainer that I use for my son for sentimental reasons - it was the engine that got me back into RC after 20 years.

Vicman,
Took some time but I finally had the chance to get the Direct Connection F-18 off the shelf and on camera. I would guesstimate the plane is about 70-80% done with most of the work going into mounting an engine, finish the covering, and then mounting the canopy and tail cones. I also have a spinner for the plane that I did not show.
Let me know what you think.

There is another way to go. Loctite thread lock or Loctite 620 Bearing mount :
A high temperature (450ºF), high viscocity liquid retaining compound. Provides a shear strength of over 3,800 psi on steel. Locks and secures metal cylindrical assemblies up to .015" diameter clearance. Prevents metal fretting and corrosion. Seals against leakage.
This might be best. Loctite don't make no junk!

Dang, I need another big project like another wife.
That said you have an excellent in process model there and I like the twin nose wheel too.
Why would you think of parting with it now that you have all the hard part done? If you want some help finishing it I would be happy to help, just to get you moving along.

RE: WS Swap Meet
Vic,
I may hold onto it for awhile longer, it is a neat looking model. Right now it is hard to get motivated since the cost is so much higher on these larger models... pneumatic retracts, expensive servos, tuned pipe, etc.
Right now 1/2A is just right = inexpensive, fits in the back of the car in one piece, and lots of fun to fly.
