Default HOB 2 x 4/.049

Any one looking for a good simple trainer with some zip. I just finished building a HOB 2x4 and put an old mcoy .049 on the front and wow what a plane. I like it so much I am thinking about building another and taking out the dihedral and adding ailerons. Has anyone flew one of these? Cool planes and well built. They are technically a glider but with 48" WS and 28 oz it can go either way. Basically what I got was a good versatile flyer.

Our club (Memphis Prop Busters) had an event for 2x4's back in '82 or '83 (if my memory is correct) We had a glider contest with a few little twists in the tasks and about 10 or 12 guys entered and had a blast.

Later, I stuck a hot reed valve Cox (what else?) on mine with a pod mount that rubber-banded on with the wing....wow, what a machine! It would climb almost OOS on a tankful and thermal pretty good or you could fly around low doing loops & barrel rolls.

The 2x4 wings showed up on other planes for years at the field. Several scratch built "old timer" type planes, a couple of electric planes, etc.

All in all a tough, simple, delightful little airplane.

Same result here, other flyers that have been stuck in a trend of .60 and up size engines looking for new projects seem to take interest. Maybe it will open their eyes instead of flying the same planes over an over agian. There is to many different types of r/c planes and designs out there why limit ourselves. 1/2a, sport, gliders, electric, etc hope to try it all eventually!
