New Brodak .049
Recently read that Brodak has begun marketing a new design .049. I seems to be somewhat different than the .049/.061 that they have been selling for a while now. Maede in a different factory and everything. Just wondering what you 1/2a gurus may know about it?

I don't know anything yet about them, except Brodak has a certain image to maintain, and their first .061 offering stunk up the joint. I will patiently wait to see good hard data submitted from one of the gurus, like how much rpm on what prop it can turn before I buy one.

If your looking for the next 20K and up 1/2A motor this will not be it. It is aimed at the c/L community and is set up for stiunt flying. It is made in Moldavia the same as his other motors and the Double Star line that Tom Dixon sells. Quality is not an issue with these. As to an R/C version, I don't know. He just got in a shipment of Brodak 40's and they are gone already> I would imagine he is keeping them pretty busy. Can't even get the new 60 to market just trying to keep up with the 1/2A /25 and 40 that he sells. Top quality at a reasonable price .It's a receipe for success and for shortage of product.

Several of us emailed Brodak asking about an R/C version. The response was that they'd look into it, and also that it would depend on the interest in an R/C version...long story short, if you want an R/C version ask for it!

RE: New Brodak .049
Those Brodak engines are obviously set up for stunt flying and are definetly not CP material.... On the 25 and 40 do my eyes decieve me or is this good ol' fashione plain bearing goodness? Are they even schneurlle ported?
As for throttling the 049 and 061 I wonder if you really need a throttle or just a good fitting muffler and exhaust restrictor. In my few attempts to throttle these small engines I seem to find that choking the exhaust seems to result in more effective and non critical operation than fiddling with micro airbleeds and finicky mixture requirements. I'm thinking that a longer "stunt" style high draw venturi coupled with a well fitting muffler that has a control valve on the outlet that can really choke it down may offer smoother operation with better transitions.
