Lightweight Ultracote alternative?
I've covered a few planes with Ultracote and really enjoy using this product. My current build is a Herr Pitts Special Bipe. This is my first 1/2A build. I didn't realize how light weight this build would be but having just started and seeing how light the material is that makes up the tail feathers I now know.
Is there a lightweight film covering out there that is similar to Ultracote's quality but lightweight or will the difference in covering weight be insignificant since this plane is so small?
Appreciate any input.

I have had good result with Microlite from 21st Century, it can be found on Towers. It can puncture , but it patches good and quick, and have not had any oil leakthrough issues to speak about.
It is about as light as you will find. I use paint of the fuse/tail, microlite the wing.

I'll second that notion. Microlite handles well, but it IS a low temperature film - my iron temp dial is usually on about the 3-4 O'clock mark for Monocote / Ultracoat, but this stuff will cook at that temp - 10-11 O'clock is more like it. One thing that kinda bugs me about it though is that the colors aren't as translucent or vibrant as the heavier coverings. Oh, it seems to hold up well to nitro, too.
Of course, there's the "laminating film" camp - do a search on the forum here, and you may find it's just what you're looking for.
Ooops.. I just re-read the post... what I meant to say was OPAQUE!!!
(I'm a goober head sometimes.)

With microlite, I leave my Tower Hobbies iron at the lowest setting for initial tacking, then crank it up about 1/4 turn for shrinking. Very low temp indeed. I love it on my LA Stick so far.

Oh, and the colors aren't "accurate" either... this is supposed to be RED.
Buy hey, as I said, it handles nice, is durable, and holds up well.
