Default Our "other" hobbies and similarities:

The motorcycle thread got me thinking about what else we in the fraternity might have in common...

Myself:

35 years old
Tool and Die Maker
Play Piano
Shoot a LOT, and still enjoy plinking/hunting with .22's
Hobby room tinkerer/experimenter
Almost multilingual
Not in the military ever, but my whole family is/was

I'm betting that a lot of us have played an instrument at one time and shoot as they are enjoyable pastimes that serve no purpose but personal pleasure.

What about you guys?

Andrew: I just got a litespeed from a fellow co-worker who competes. I have not ridden it enough to wear a calus on my but, so it is still pretty painfull to ride more than about 5 miles. My co-worker rides about 200 miles a week!@?

Gentlemen (I use the term lightly since I know many of you) I have enjoyed sixty-five years of growth so far. I have been married to the same woman (letā€™s call her SWMBO) for forty-two of them (Iā€™m known as HWMBS). We have two daughters and five grandkids, two boys and three girls. Currently they range from 3-months to six-years of age. It gives me immense joy to watch my children with their children ā€“ grandparent-hood is awesome!

I am a retired deputy director of engineering from a prominent Federal agency that I expect youā€™ve dealt with annually. Iā€™ve been a project manager and consultant to Federal and state (NC) agencies. In case anybody asks, I like being retired better.

I finished my first R/C model in 1958 as a science fair project. My first R/C model was also ā€œfinishedā€ in 1958. Prior to that: mostly FF. Now I tend to focus on little models, with TD .010s in ā€˜em is best. But I also have active models up through IMAA size. Iā€™ve built three ARFs, many models from plans, some kits, not-enough scratch/original designs.

I have a kayak that doesnā€™t get wet often enough. And although I used to tie my own flies for trout and panfish ā€“ anymore I try to get to the coast for surf and pier fishing once a month.

Sorry, no music in my bones. Sorry, only owned one motorcycle for about half an hour (long story).

Free advice; take photos and notes about every model you build. In 1987 we changed homes and I pulled models out of my attic that I would have sworn Iā€™d never even seen before (and I wasnā€™t senile then).

P.S. I also tend to be 'wordy'.

Gorgeous stang. I have a soft spot for 8cylinder clasics. Looks like stock wheels, 289? Paint looks nice, but I didn't think the coupe came with ralley stripes, is that factory?

Oh, and is that a sombrero in the seat?

No Sombrero but my wife is part Mexican. You may be seeing the wood steering wheel... The 289 is long since lost and now the car has a 302. The stripes were my addition during the restoration as well as other mods. I bought the car esentially a hollow shell for $300 and spent 3 years on it. Now I am selling it to get started on my other one.

Looks like you do nice work.

I see the wood steering wheel plainly, but it looks like there is something toward the center of the car, maybe just a reflection of something in the windshield. Either way, it's a good looking stang.

Im just a 52 yr old mutt, been machining since High School, Some say I am a Tool Maker, a term I say is just an "old machinist that has done it for too long" I did get my Private license in '79, First model airplane I flew was in about '64 ( I was 9 yrs old then) First R/C I flew was in 1972. I Got hooked on Helicopters in the mid 80's while I still played with 1/2a pylon. My first 1/2a pylon race I tried was in '74 I believe.
I had three kids, they have kids now. and I think I need therepy because I come home from work and still desire to machine an engine part or something in the evenings.
I coached boxing for 15 yrs, that was fun, had some great kids in that program.
Now back to playing with my little engines. Still married to same gal since '74 ( I married at 19 yrs old, glad I did too)
My history is so easy to tell--- nothing special!
